This video is very graphic, but if we don't face the reality of what is happening to our mothers, our daughters, sisters, etc. we cannot change it. This is National Women's History Month and women are still suffering and being abused no matter their race, color, or social status.

1. I wish that this issue was taken seriously around here
but sadly DU is chock full of hateful misogynists who will maintain to their dying breath that women "make" men do this and that men are the true victims. :-(

2. So sad
Women are the bearers of life and make up half of civilization, yet are still considered minorites. I am appalled at how brazen men (and sometimes even other women) can be when it comes to equality amongst the genders. It goes so far beyond that of racists and hate. It is the mental and physical slavery of mothers and daughters. I pledge to post a video every day this month, even though they haven't been very popular and IMO not considered "political" enough by alot of DUers

5. Thank you.
It a mazes me how little attention this subject gets when it happens at least thousands of times on a daily basis. If this were happening to men walking down the street it would be taken seriously. Unfortunately we women are still considered second class citizens on many levels.

6. So true
every time a person is attacked for being black or gay or disabled or non-Christian there are howls of outrage on DU. But when a woman is attacked? Some here wonder aloud what the "bitch" did to "deserve it". We make up the majority of the population, but we are still far from being an equal part of it. :-(

3. Stop Violence
My wife volunteers with the local spouse abuse organization. Roughly 30% of the victims are male. Beyond the issue of "domestic violence", she brushes up daily against the larger community of people seeking protection injunctions from other individuals (not spouses or relatives). What strikes me in her daily stories is the justification of violence AT ALL in these confrontations. "She pissed me off", or "It was my fault, I burnt the meat load", or any other number of justifications by either the abuser or the victim. There is an underlying concept in many cultures that violence, direct physical violence, is justifiable for otherwise non-threatening confrontations.

I'm sorry, but I don't care how much someone pisses you off, don't push THEM away, YOU walk away. There is no justification for hitting someone over a verbal disagreement. Men, if you're punching a woman who isn't threatening you, you're doing something wrong. Ladies, I don't care how much of a jackass he is, DON'T slap him, punch him, poke him or otherwise attack him. Leave, AND STAY AWAY.

And now we can move on to the subject of using violence against children.......

I volunteer at a battered women's shelter in my hometown. Although you are right in stating that not all abuse is that towards women, I am raising the issue and NOT moving on because this happens to be National Women's History Month and violence against women IS rampant, no matter who hit who first, the woman is the one sent to the ER most of the time. It is known that most children who are the subject of violence are also in a home where their mother is abused as well. To solve any problem, you go to the core.
