1. I was glad she brought up Gramm-Leach-Bliley and the Commodity
Modernization Act. I wish she mentioned Enron, too.

As for getting rid of regulations, why not start with the IRS? Don't they regulate taxation?

3. The IRS is too busy
auditing my friend who is a adjunct teacher of Fashion History at Parsons and other NYC colleges. They don't have time for trivial wastes of time like keeping an eye on Wall Street! Not with the menace of adjunct art history faculty running amok!

5. I know. Enron was caused by that too. Something nobody ever mentions.

7. Thank God for Rachel, I wish Dems could be this succinct
Ask any Republican who's to blame for the economic crisis, and you'll immediately hear "Fannie and Freddie, Franks and Dodd". This mantra has been drummed into them from day one of the collapse. Half of them probably think Fannie and Freddie are humans. Ask the average Democrat the same question and you'll get some rambling about credit default swaps or something. Maybe it's because Bill Clinton did sign those deregulation bills. I don't know.

The right wing message machine still blows us out of the water every time. Fortunately, they are sending a very mixed message at this moment. Right wingers are trying to create a populist revolt against the government, while at the same time defending Wall Street crooks. I don't think that's going to work. If it doesn't, it won't be because the Democratic message carried the day.

8. President Clinton bent over
backwards to do what the Republicans wanted. What good did it do him? They even impeached him over trivialities. I do agree with this guy that Geithner was sympathetic to these deregulation acts. This is why President Obama should change partners before he gets mired down in this mess. I fear Obama, like Clinton before him, does not recognize the danger of these 'pat you on the back Republicans'.

9. Whoa, Nellie!!
The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act was passed by a republic congress with a veto-proof
majority and the Commodity Futures Trading Act was slipped into a bill headed
for the president in the middle of the night - same republic congress.

10. Proud to be fifth rec
Question:

Have any of the corporate right wing media ever gone after Rachel directly? Bill-o, Coulter, Hannity, Rush, and so on?

Do they use her name or rely instead on a vague inference?

Just wondering...Rachel could disembowel that sort with one career ending swoop, given the opportunity.

11. That Rolling Stone article by Matt Taibi that you turned me onto also gives an
incredibly coherent, concise and complete history of this via the AIG story.
It also mentions these de-regulation catastrophes.

http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/26793903/the_big_takeover

It is 8 pages online, but definitely worth reading.

If you cannot read online for that much, print it out and make sure to read it.
