1. I remember this one. Particularly love it when the witch goes ballistic on...
the former fan who know realizes that her turgid blather was just selfish nonsense

2. Isn't it funny how the word 'turgid' comes up so often in conjuntion with Ayn Rand?
She was nothing but a writer of turgid smutty sci-fi novels.

a facility with language.

26. Yep...if she'd taken the nutty politics/economics/philosophy out of her books...
...she would have had a bunch of third-rate romance novels. :puke:

7. I want to watch it too.
Someone linked to an interview she did with Mike Wallace back in the '50s. Wallace was clearly appalled by Rand's views and grilled her relentlessly. It made me sad because nowadays Rand's bizarre philosophy is accorded legitimacy.

Ayn Rand Mike Wallace -- gets you all the parts. Someone posted the beginning of this here on DU a month or so ago, I was not aware that there was a full interview.

17. Bookmarked for later...
You know, there must be tons of old interviews Phil did that would be wonderful to watch now. Thanks to YouTube, maybe we will get some chance to do so.

Thanks for this post.

22. I grew up in Sothern Ohio until I was 6
Donahue was a standard everywhere you went when I was a kid. If there was a TV in a house or place of business Phil was on at 10 AM (I think)

5. What do Hatshepsut and Ayn Rand have in common?
One was "erased" from history and the other one should be.

8. She doesn't like altruism
Edited on Sat Mar-28-09 05:23 PM by GCP
Not very Christian of her.

My god - she even hates the idea of kneeling buses for the handicapped.

What a POS.

13. She was damaged goods
A disruption of her early life (which paled in comparison to others of the time) set her on a course of a dismissal of all humans and humanity. Very Straussian of her. She went on to personally demonstrate this disdain for people in courting and openly revealing to her partner and his that she was taking him as hers mostly for the purpose of showing that she could do it or was willing to.

28. Well, considering...
Not very Christian of her.

...that Rand was a militant atheist who believed Christianity was "immoral" (because it called for sacrifice and an ethic revolving around the needs of others), is that all so surprising?

I am an atheist who can't stand Ayn Rand's teachings. My brother is an Objectivist, so it affects me personally.

part 1 was not bad. I'm glad there was a date (at least somewhat) for it, as I cannot tell based upon clothes.

I hadn't even read Atlas Shrugged or The Fountainhead at the time this was taped.

21. I managed to make it through college without ever reading...
anything by this woman. I've read enough about Atlas Shrugged, Fountainhead and others to know I definitely didn't miss much.

Sadly, though, this woman's crest was just long enough ago that many will be taken in by the Randians and their asshole theories. I'm glad to see these public interviews available. I'll watch when I have time.

I haven't read either book but she seems to have not consider that there has to be someone on the BACK of the garbage truck and that without law enforcement there is no stability in property ownership

or as "Judge Smails" said "the world needs ditchdiggers too"
