The East Coast of Canada Seal hunt is in progress, where over 250,000 seals only a few weeks old will be killed. The EU is set to vote for a ban, but Canada says it will go to the WTO to continue the hunt.

Boycott Red Lobster which buys East Coast Canada fish from the men who kill the seals.

1. Why do they do this?
Is this for fur or food or sport?

It's disgusting, and I think they do it just to tick people off.

Only a depraved, sick sociopath would chose to kill a baby seal that young.

Can people stand out there and protect the seals?

2. They claim to do it for the fur pelts.
Reality is that though the pelts do bring in a meager amount of profit, it's mostly done to eliminate the biggest competition the fishermen have. Eliminating 300,000 hungry mouths each year is one way to try to offset an ecosystem they've all but destroyed via overfishing.

They're oftentimes skinned alive right there and the carcass is left behind, so it's definitely not for food.

Canada has VERY strict laws about being in the area, and you need a permit to even watch the hunt. Getting within X number of feet of a sealing vessel can get you in big trouble. Canada arrested The Farley Mowat (Sea Shepherd Conservation Society's ship) for allegedly doing just that, even though it was outside Canada's territorial waters.

3. It is a way to give a meagre amount of money to the fisherman
and Canada does not want to spend the time or effort to find a different income for them. It is just that the seals are so easy to kill and then find any kind of market for them, at whatever price they can get.
