1. Starts with intelligent, coherent people, but ends with idiots...
Edited on Wed Apr-01-09 02:35 PM by Barack_America
As, unfortunately, these protests often do.

Kill everybody, oh yes, that's definitely the answer.

:eyes:

ETA: I recommend the first 2 min. or so, but not the rest.

2. Ias always a
couple of idiots spoil it. But the huge majority were just peaceful and angry. There was genuine anger amongst ordinary people there. (and if a few RBS windows gewt smashed, i ain't gonna lose sleep.

A lot of people were there because they'd lost their jobs, not because they were extreme, and a lot of the violence was a reaction to police violence, who did several charges into the crowd, cracking skulls as they went.

People are genuinely angry and the mainstream media will just portray it as idiots, don't be fooled, please.

In fact, as we speak many peaceful demonstrators are still penned in by police, not being allowed to go home. I spoke to one woman who was cryiong, because she had to pick her kids up from school and the police wouldn't let her out.

4. I'd like for the OP to point out what exactly was "idiotic" about any of the people in the video
As usual for a lot of Americans it seems that daring to display their tacit enablement of our society's evils is a worse transgression than the evils themselves....

7. Suggesting that all bankers, politicians and journalists be "shot".
For one.

6. Barack, i've also just read your post on
another thread about fashiond protesting, or something like that.

I'm sure you have reliable sources and you mean well, but i've been demonstrating for the past few days, have done in the past in Europe, and have literally no idea what you are talking about.

Could you enlighten me please, i think you've been taken in by something or someone...

8. I'll try to explain.
Perhaps European anarchists and anti-globalization protesters are different from those I've experienced in the U.S., and I actually hope that's true because there's a valuable message there.

But we have such people (not sure about that word selection), who live in my neighborhood. They look the part and speak like your protesters. However, these kids who usually arrive here in hordes by train every summer, contribute little to the debate regarding globalization.

They squat in abandoned buildings, party constantly and contribute nothing in theory or practice to our impoverished neighborhoods. The worst of them prey on poor neighborhoods, squatting in abandoned homes and bring in drugs and general unrest to communities that are fighting very hard for respect and order. They seem to do this because they think it is somehow "real" to live amongst poor black people. They do, however, like to talk and to protest, and seem to think that these "activities" are somehow accomplishing something. I will say that a small minority of these people do end up making connections and contributions to the community, but all in all, I think that our neighborhood would be better without them. I moderately respected them and their "alternative" lifestyle until they murdered one of their own in a vicious beating a block from my home when a drunken party went bad. Come to find out that particular building had been regarded as something of a "squatters paradise" because neither the electricity nor cable had been turned off. Some "anti-consumerists" they were, pilfering utilities on the dime of their low income "neighbors".

So yeah, those experiences have largely shaped my opinion that many of the people who show up to these protests are "fakers" and nuisances. Hope that you can understand where I'm coming from.

10. I think i kind of get
what you're talking about now, although i've never come across such people in UK or Europe. The worst i've come across is people who pretend to give a shit but are mainly harmless (and they turn up to marches etc anyhow) In the main everyone's genuine as far as i can tell. In thne UK, if they were'nt they'd most likely just go to the pub rather than pretend

Definitely sounds like the idiots you talk about are attracted to the idea of protesting and anarchy rather than the reality, and to be frank i'm glad we don't have them, they sound like assholes. (attack sounds sickening as well)

cheers.

5. It was much broader than that. But anarchists get the TV time because
they support the conservative media's preferred message-- Demonstrations are BAAAD and SCAAARY --
reasonable people should stay home.

There were lots of others at that demonstration, as there have been at our demonstrations.

But our conservative-owned media like to show the violent bits.

9. The climate change protest (separate protest) looked quite interesting...
...and smart.

Unfortunately it was, as the BBC News put it, "drowned out" by the violent protest at the RBS.

11. Yeah. It was a climate camp
what they did was 'flash camp' the area. They used mobiles and twitter and thousands descended suddenly in the heart of the financial centre and set up a campsite with picnics and workshops and sand pits etc. Really inventive and fun.

Bit as you say media is always distracted by violence, they're not interested in the issues

14. There's also farily disgusting stories on here about police actions

They baton charged a sit down protest by students and beat an italian woman unconcious.

Also, an independent observer from (legal observers) that usually co-operate with the police is laying blame at their dorr it would seem as well.

15. How come the video was uploaded on the 29th of March and the protest was on the 1st of April?
Edited on Thu Apr-02-09 05:37 AM by Turborama
Was this a separate demo from the main one that happened yesterday?

(Edit to fix typo)
