From the Washington Post:

Is the Christian right finished as a political entity? Or, more to the point, are principled Christians finished with politics?

These questions have been getting fresh air lately as frustrated conservative Christians question the pragmatism -- defined as the compromising of principles -- of the old guard. One might gently call the current debate a generational rift.

The older generation, represented by such icons as James Dobson, who recently retired as head of Focus on the Family, has compromised too much, according to a growing phalanx of disillusioned Christians. Pragmatically speaking, the Christian coalition of cultural crusaders didn't work.

For proof, one need look no further than Dobson himself, who was captured on tape recently saying that the big cultural battles have all been lost.

Shortly thereafter, in late March, Christian radio host Steve Deace of WHO Radio in Iowa aggressively interviewed Tom Minnery, head of the political arm of Focus on the Family. Minnery, whom Deace described as "the Karl Rove of the religious right," accused Deace during the interview of ambushing him when he had expected a chat about Dobson's legacy.

Indeed, Deace was loaded for bear -- or Pontius Pilate. It wasn't exactly a Limbaugh-Obama matchup, but it was confrontational, and corners of America's heartland and Bible Belt have been buzzing ever since.

2. thank you.
Prosperity Christianity is abhorrent to me. Well, I'm an atheist so I'm easily repulsed, but this money grabbing really has me in a twist.

8. I am spiritual in my own fashion.
This blantant commercial sort of religiosity consumes the human soul and shackles the mind from developing freedom of thought.

4. Religion IS Government
Religion...orginized religion....is just ancient government. You'll never get religion outta of Government completely because they are about the same thing: controlling a population's behavior. In the Stone Age, when every human was supremely ignorant of the world and universe and everything was a mystery, it was easy for power hungry, charismatic types to gain control over the masses and keep it by claiming some better-than-average relationship with the supernatural powers that be. Kings and Pharaohs and Shamans and Emperors and so on all claim DIVINE right. They descended from some god, or speak to some god or ARE some god. Government WAS religion. In old-timey Christianity even Heaven is set up like an Earthly government (though they claim it's the other way around) With god, and cherubim and seraphim and so on... it's obvious. The traditional "Celestial Hierarchy":

"a traditional hierarchy of angels ranked from lowest to highest into the following nine orders: angels, archangels, principalities, powers, virtues, dominions, thrones, cherubim, and seraphim "

That's why America is definitely NOT a Christian Nation. A Christian Nation in 1776 was one with a KING...appointed by god for him and his family to rule. A Christian Nation is antithetical to the philosophy that created America.

7. Great Article- I added my coments at TWP
This has been one the longest running most predicted train wrecks in modern history. It was always inevitable once we saw people using the word of Jesus and the Bible to beat their way onto the national stage and proclaim the moral high ground for all of us.

The true shame in all of this for me was watching the GOP successfully co-opt the movement for purely selfish political ends. A lot of well meaning and decent folks left a part of themselves on the road to this eventuality. They will not soon forget who it was that took them on this journey to ignominy and who left them at the station empty handed and bitter.

I think Cal Thomas summed it up nicely, "The problem isn't political. The problem is moral and spiritual." Amen brother Cal, amen.
