Was this flyover approved by some right winger in the Defense Dept; in an attempt to cause a backlash against Obama? Things don't happen by accident; and no one was informed. This smells fishy

5. The police were told

according to tv reports. If I was Bloomberg I'd want to know why one of his cops didn't mention this to him. The info could have accidentally made it to his ears, like someone talking out loud in his presence. If it was me I'd claim I assumed the Mayor must be in the loop so it would only make sense to feel free to talk about it around him.

Once Bloomberg got word of it things would have straightened out in a hurry.

The guys who "went along" and didn't tell the boss what was coming up will probably end up pounding a beat somewhere in Staten Island like the Law & Order cop Chris Noth played.

Don't tell the mayor. What a bunch of morans.

Bush: Give me some time and maybe I'll be able to think of one (mistake). (paraphrased from one of the debates) Bush never apologized for anything that he did.

The way the flight was handled was a total screw up, but the White House responded immediately with a mea culpa. Handled properly the flight would have been a great pr move -- if everyone in NYC knew when and where it was going to happen they'd be out there to record the event. How often do we get to see Air Force One? Even though it doesn't have that call sign until the president is on board, for all intents and purposes it's still "Air Force One" in most people's minds.

I think the worst sin was that Obama wasn't told before it happened. That was a pretty major event to have the president out of the loop. Somebody's going to be put in timeout for a while.
