1. Really astounding
Interesting how they compared it to the study done on "All In the Family" from the 70's, where some identified with Archie Bunker and found him "charming" and "old-fashioned."

Better take "satire" out of the useful tool box for talking with conservatives.

3. Amazing.
I wonder, if there was an equivalent of Colbert for conservatives-- a RWer doing a parody of a liberal-- whether there would be similar findings? It's difficult to imagine.

9. David Cross is a lefty doing a parody of a liberal on Colbert's
show. That probably makes conservatives' heads explode.

10. He is!?! David Cross was probably the funniest actor on Arrested Development

tough call, because they were all hilarious.

I would like to see it. Can I find it on the Colbert Report website?

Edit: Wait, are you saying David Cross is politically conservative?

11. No, David Cross is a liberal. His comedy routines and interviews
make that very clear. But he plays a character from time to time on Colbert named Russ Lieber. Kind of the Colmes to Colbert's Hannity. So I guess that act is a liberal parody of the liberal parody that is Alan Colmes.

You can find some of his work at http://www.colbertnation.com/video?keywords=russ+lieber

12. Fox news tried
The "half hour comedy show" I think it was called.

And it sucked royally. Even cons didn't like it.

One has to understand satire before one can do it.

4. I'm shocked
Repugs are too stupid to realize when they are being made fun of... what a shock.

5. I found it hard to believe
when I first read about these results, especially considering that Correspondent's Dinner appearance by Colbert. I figured the few who hadn't "gotten" it before would surely realize what Colbert was up to--but apparently not. The mention of Archie Bunker made it more clear to me. When I was growing up I knew (and was even related to) a few people who liked the show BECAUSE of Archie's views. One truly crazy relative even said she loved the show but had trouble watching it because of Meathead's crazy liberal opinions, but she was astoundingly stupid in general so I really thought of her as an anomaly. I'm much older now and I've met many more of these not-necessarily-anomalies. These results stress for me the accuracy of a favorite quote:

"There is no expedient to which man will not resort to avoid the real work of thinking."--(right here is where I should put an attribute but, try as I might, even using The Google to search the internets, I've been unable to find out who originally said this)

We are suffering, and causing a great deal of suffering, because so many are unwilling to do the real work of thinking. It seems to go beyond just seeing what we want to see. I think it involves an incredible amount of mental gymnastics employed to avoid the real work of thinking.

7. When I was a kid I couldn't understand why Archie never seemed to win
I didn't grow up in a racist household at all I think it was more a matter of seeing someone who looked like my grandfather (who I don't think would at all agree with Archie).

I have learned a lot since then.

8. Amazing that these are college students. Even the dense one (W)
understood quite readily that Colbert was not flattering him when Colbert headlined the press dinner.
