Media Matters pulls a selection of the last few weeks talking points - typical ranters about multiple partners getting married (God's preferred method until less than 100 years ago), marrying your turtle, blah, blah, blah.

These people are so afraid of losing this issue that's been such a big fundraiser and vote getter for them. Considering how the rest of things are going for the GOP - no wonder they're holding on like it's the only thing they've got left.

1. Consenting Adults
It's like they said on "The Young Turks"....what about consenting adults do these people not get? A child is not a consenting adult...even if the child consents! A turtle is not a consenting adult.

As far as polygamy goes, I think you'll find that to be the most practiced form of marriage in the history of the institution. And of course polygamy includes polyandry as well was polygyny. (I'll bet Pat doesn't know that!)I say go for it, but only if all parties consent....on paper...legally....and can get free if they want.

Christian ideas are not the only ideas around, and most of them are obsolete, none of them are original. The useful ones certainly are not original.

The point is, the legal side can not discriminate. The ceremony and theatre surrounding the legalities are a personal choice. If you want to get married hanging upside down in a Batman costume...do it. If you don't like gay marriage, then don't have one.

2. I find the argument against polygamy hypocritical
I don't see a very clear difference between being married to many women or men at the same time and having many ex-spouses.

I know that the bond is legally broken, but the vow is still in play, and many times--if there are children involved--the relationship and responsibility are lessened, but they still exist.

3. Not to mention all the Biblical heros who partook of that option
and the fact that the churches even allow divorce considering what Jesus himself said about it - they quote part of the verse as support for "one man/one woman" but totally leave out the part right before that where he called it adultery - one of the Big 10 No No's they always want to plaster on the school and courthouse walls.
