Reference note from morning's NY Times says: The men were petty criminals who appeared to be acting alone, not in concert with any terrorist organization, the New York City police commissioner said Thursday.

1. yahoo news was saying they were

"committing jihad", implying that the term means "terrorism", which it does not. It means "struggle", and I "commit jihad" every day as I try to maintain my proper weight and keep up my exercise program to reduce my osteopenia. Thanks for letting me know that these were petty criminals. I figured with the hyped up language it was something like this--anything to sow fear and to broadcast misinformation about Islam and what "jihad" really means.
