it's everyone's civil rights movement.
The thing is if you can fire someone for being gay you can fire them for appearing to be gay or being accused of being gay. You can fire them for being straight.
"Gay" Marriage is a misnomer -- if a drag queen marries a diesel dyke (sorry, among friends) and they conduct an "open" marriage, has banning "gay" marriage really done anything? If interracial marriage is acceptable, then shouldn't same gender interracial marriage therefore be legal? Or maybe interracial (whatever that is) marriage should be a state's right. All these people having a say in who you are "allowed" (read: "supposed") to marry.
The idea of recognizing (notice I did not say "allowing") same gender marriage loses its bite when you realize that "traditional" marriage without a law to enforce reproduction is anything but traditional. So is fucking your "opposite gender" wife in the butt.
The rights of non-offspring blood kin should not exceed the rights of your designated heirs, regardless of "legal" familial affiliation.
I don't give a shit if civil rights are only to be associated with Jim Crow oppression. Those people are WRONG, and almost to the last person, also socially myopic and racist themselves, ironically.
Until we stop asking for rights and start sitting down in the front of the bus, we shouldn't be holding our breath. Marriage of ANY kind is not a "state's" right.
It is a civil right.
