Why her instead of a liberal? Or is Rachel wrong? Is Barbara right? Is she liberal enough for balance? Or is she towing the party line?

1. The difference is Barbara boxer spent the effort to look at her rulings
and get an accurate assessment for her, while Rachel simple strong together some sound bites.

3. I wonder where Rachel went for her soundbites?
I'm a Boxer by the way (contributor, one of her out of state ones).

5. She pulled the sound bites from the sales pitch directed at the public at large
when selling a judge to the public at large, it's a good idea to sell a moderate candidate. Wouldn't be very smart to say- "yeah she as a tried and true liberal, as far left as you can find...". That would create a difficult situation in the Senate.

4. This could be a very clever move by Obama-
we know that anybody- and I mean anybody- he nominates is going to be wrong as far as the right wing is concerned. And even now the biosphere is lit up with conservatards screaming about how unqualified she is, how racists she is, and how the right-thinking people of this country (no pun intended) aren't going to let Obama get away with this and will drive him from office in 2012. This is their reaction to someone who will make the court more conservative!

What if Obama anticipated this reaction?

We've seen it before: Wasn't it W who pulled a similar trick? With a hispanic judge, no less? The strategy is, you give them something they ask for, but which is nevertheless unacceptable, then they can't complain later when they don't get it. (i.e. "Well, I nominated a minority justice and you rejected him.") This tactic was a favorite of Nixon- the master of torpedoing liberal causes while appearing to support them. If i'm right about this, I'm glad to see we're hitting them with some of their own medicine.

6. I don't trust her much....
But I could say that about any politician.....I like Boxer most of the time...but...

I wish Obama went for a more liberal candidate....push for what you need while you can.
Strike while the iron is hot....and settle for half measures when you have too.

:banghead: :banghead: Missed opportunity here...Lemon now.. more whiskey later when its
time to celebrate.:toast:  Anyone else with me on this????
