I think you might want to take your grandmother to the local
general hospital for treatment on an emergency basis perhaps?
To get her started in the medicaid process. Or sign her up
for medical so she can get started. You shouldn't wait for
reform. There must be some services the government already has
in place to help people that have no healthcare.
Here is San Francisco we have the "Healthy San
Francisco" option where people who have no heathcare can
get help.
Our favorite pizza parlor was employing a man with a green
card but no health care and he went to the emergency ward of
the general hospital and upon examining him, he was found to
have unoperative stomach and liver cancer. They are keeping
him, monitoring him, and working on treatment as an
in-patient. He has no money to pay for this, but he has
become assertive about his own care. Could be he is now on
medicaid, which is something she will need to apply for,
generally reserved for those with no money and no health
insurance.
Government policy changes will take years. Even if we get a
public option, which I can't see why we won't. It takes time
to set up the logistics. If we are lucky, we will expand all
services into the fold of the Medicare plan and move forward
quickly, but just in case we don't, make some other plans.
Good luck. Your grandmother is a lucky woman that she has
your love and attention.
We do still need to contact our congress critters and make a
statement about the public option or their jobs next election
to push them, but lets face it. 55 other countries have it.
If we accept a reform without a government run option we are
duped and stupid and deserve what we get. Even tiny countries
have it. And we already pay for it with our tax dollars, that
are diverted instead to support mercenaries and wars around
the world. We gotta get smarter and more assertive. Not
aggressive, but in a civilized fashion assert that we don't
want congresscritters making money off of us and using it to
make people hate us and to destroy the quality of our lives by
diverting our money elsewhere for their greedy pockets.
Thanks for your video post.
Good luck. Don't wait. Start you research and filing
applications asap.
