I find this veteran to be incredibly intelligent and well spoken, and also fascinating to listen to. His discussions of reticence regarding pre-emptive war are truly refreshing.

He came through my town on a bike across America type of tour and I read his book...compelling.

I can totally relate to this guy. I joined the military in 1988. I too was apolitical for the most part. After my first trip to the middle east, I knew we had to liberate Kuwait, but I have always felt that our presence there had always been based on access to oil. After I got out of the military, I became much more interested in current events and I have always opposed the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. There clearly is no mission. This war has cost too many lives and it has broke the American economy. We have been on a mouse hunt for Bin Laden, who I believe is somewhere where we are not looking. (Saudi). It is amazing to me that one man can literally bring our nation to its knees, yet we continue to waste precious resources fighting something that should have always been dealt with diplomatically.
