Many DUers are down on the military for the acts of a few. The large majority of members of the armed forces do deserve our thanks.

2. Create a cult of heroes.

And get the kids to worship them so that when they get old enough they can fight too....one cannot have a permanent war unless you have such thing.
My father was wounded in WW1 and I had two brothers in WW2 but no one fond over them as hero's because they considered it a duty to serve.
It was our enemy, Fascism that created this cult like worship of the soldier and look where it took them.

I was in the army, 1972-75. There is no more heroism in hiring out to fight these corporate wars than there is in hiring out to work an oil rig. No more honor in the imperial military than there is in the imperial financial cabal. It all adds up to the same thing. No one who was part of the invasions and occupations of Iraq or Afghanistan did so for me or any of the common people. If they were lied to (and continue to be lied to) about what they have been doing, neither we nor they are well served by continuing the lies. Tell them the truth - that they have been used by a corporate system that is no more patriotic or wholesome than a car title loan shop. If there is any honor left it is in telling the returning soldiers the truth.

And remember all these "returning" soldiers will be shipped back out to Afghanistan within a year to fifteen months, so...

I couldn't have said it any better! I, too, served during the 'Nam mess and there is NO honor in it - none! When you join up you are merely serving the corportists who need wars to sustain their philosophy.

The thing that really pisses me off though is that I expect to see this crap (videos of 'heros' etc.) over on the religionist right
wing blogs. But I don't want to see them over here where we're supposed to be enlightened about all of that bullshit. I may make a video about this love of military and its real consequences and post it over here. But I know I'll piss off alot of the 'enlightened' pretend lefties.
