1. But how many services can you pay for a la carte?

Paying for individual services would be impossible for most people. What if you had to pay an annual fee to animal control, on the off chance a rabid dog appears on your property this year, plus another fee for police protection, and another for ambulance services, and another for road upkeep? Collectivley it would add up to much more than you'd pay in taxes, plus you would succumb to fee fatigue, paying an animal control fee every year and never using it. You just need it all to be there.

...for all of those services. Each service would have to have its own billing department to track who has paid and who hasn't.

6. Taking the argument one step forward

Based upon the woman's defense of ala carte services then people should pay into the public education system for the same number of years they benefited from it and pay no more. But that is not going to happen.
