It's hard not to watch Sharron Angle's new television ad, which features menacing shots of illegal immigrants sneaking across the border as a narrator ticks off all of the ways "illegals" are hurting "you" (with Harry Reid's help!), and not be reminded of the notorious race-baiting spot that Jesse Helms aired in the closing days of his 1990 Senate campaign against Harvey Gantt.

Helms' "hands" ad, considered one of the most blunt appeals to racial resentment in the history of televised political advertising, showed a pair of white hands crumbling up a rejection letter from a prospective employer. "You wanted that job," the narrator says. "You needed that job. But they had to give it to a minority because of a racial quota."

The same basic technique is evident in both the Helms and Angle spots: portraying the Democratic candidate as a politically correct social tinkerer who is more interested in helping undeserving minorities than "you."

The Helms spot (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIyewCdXMzk), for what it's worth, went up in October '90, when polls showed Gantt with a real chance at unseating him, but Helms went on to win by five points. (He also beat Gantt in a 1996 rematch, making Helms undefeated in five Senate races.)

4. I Don't Understand How You Can

Give people who don't have a SSN Social Security benefits. And what is the real story on the taxes and tuition? I don't believe anything Angle says.

6. They give them benefits for this simple reason:

On these jobs that they ....(they..illegals)..have..
..they pay into the soical security system..the jobs deduct social security..even if they go back to wherever. they have funded into the social security system..
..It is taken out of their pay, like everyone else in that financial category. Illegals historically get back little from their contributions into the social security system. (a fact well known in the social security system)

..As far as taxes and tuition, illegals pay taxes too..They get that money taken out of their check..
So, in a state with state income tax, they pay it..you had better believe it, cause they don't want to be "bothered by government agents coming to their door"
So, again they pay it..And they pay it too when illegals buy stuff and pay sales tax, a most regressive tax...so they support the state that way too..

It is ugly shit, that the right wing nuts .. never talk about when they give these arguments..cause they make sence..but this Angle ad is not about..making sence..
it is about hate, hate and more hate..
.. . HATE AND FEAR.....and sadly..it may work.here. because it has worked in the past..very effective ..HATE AND FEAR...
