- The digital age and the miniaturization of cameras has begun to show everyone what many of us knew all along: "Most cops are DICKS."

It is obvious he thinks you go to prison for punishment, not as punishment.

12. California Highway Patrol AH
Edited on Fri Oct-08-10 02:40 PM by Mkard
At the end, just before patrolman stomps-off in a huff, radio voice says "brshsshhs brshsshhszza Barstow".

So, we have seen an example of California's finest. With the extreme anti-furrener hostility this person was projecting, I was betting on Arizona Sheriff!!

Not pleasant to see or hear. LE professionalism has slid pretty far in the last 20yrs. Of a kind with the FBI comment as they were collecting the discovered GPS tracker FBI had placed on some college kid's car. "so whaddya going to do about it? huh punk?" (I paraphrase, but in both cases that complacent arrogance is precisely what is behind these behaviours)

Idiot cop doesn't realize that tourism brings in lots of money for California. It creates jobs and provides tax revenues. Without tourism, California would have an even bigger deficit.

18. A few years ago I had some clients from Belgium who got all frazzled when the police
pulled them over (for something minor- failure to yield ..or something). Their Belgian driver's licenses and passports apparently confused and confounded the cop: Apparently, he didn't think the documents they presented to him were real (they weren't even in English!). This was in a Southern state which rhymes with "Borgia".

to a foreign national.

Granted, the cop was over the top.

BUT on the other hand, Germany boy was going 98 mph. That's not a simple case of "not paying attention." You have to work to go that fast.

If he'd killed your dog, you wouldn't be excusing him.

We're not excusing the driver's driving. We are focused on the cop's behavior in which he threatened anal rape. His behavior was simply inexcusable.

The cop is wrong twice. This cop should lose his job for harassing a motorist, and then letting a dangerous driver back out on the road.

23. If you watch carefully, he's very professional right up to the
point that he realizes that he's dealing with foreign nationals who will blow off any ticket he hands out.

Here's something to ponder - what would have happened if these two had been picked up speeding in Germany? Not every road there is the autobahn.

Don't let the high speeds on German roads fool you into believing that there are no reduced speed zones. Usually, speeders will not be stopped at the time of the offense but will get a speeding ticket through the mail. This may be as long as two or three months after the incident. The German police use special cameras to catch speeders. Persons exceeding the limits by more than 30 kilometers an hour can count on losing licenses for a period of up to three months, plus a stiff fine.

A tough, computerized point system is used to get dangerous drivers off the road. Increasingly strict penalties are the order of the day especially where drugs or alcohol are involved, and especially if there was an accident. Except where posted because of construction or traffic problems, there are no speed limits on the autobahns, although the recommended maximum is 130kph (about 80mph).

The basic speed limit is 50kph (about 30mph) in built-up areas and 100kph (about 60mph) elsewhere. If you are hauling a trailer the speed limit is 80kph (50mph) on roads and autobahns.
http://www.howtogermany.com/pages/driving.html

98mph in a 70mph zone is 45kph over the limit.

24. I disagree regarding the "professionalism"
He didn't examine the license or registration. He just had the rental agreement and didn't even really look at it. Instead he launches into "where are you from?" in a really nasty tone.
I do not accept that as "professional behavior."

In California, can one get arrested for driving 15 mph over the speed limit? If so, the cop failed to use the proper thing to scare this driver into driving safely.

33. Judges are the ones who are supposed to be concerned
with the correctness of the law. The correct procedure for this would have been to arrest the motorist and take them before a judge.

Barney Fife hillbilly cop jargon has no place on any highway.

The cop did not arrest the motorist because it is a hassle/extra work for the cop.
(He should be behind a desk.)

37. Sorry to say but you are wrong.
Even when I was a witness or a bystander I have encountered the nasty authoritarian attitutde of the police. My house was broken into and burglarized back when I was in college. I was the first witness on the scene. I called the cops. When they arrived they completely ignored me and instead referred all questions to my white roommate. So fuck the police. Fuck 'em and their pigheaded attitude. This guy is the rule not the exception.

40. 98mph on some of the roads out west is NOTHING!
I have seen trains of cars on I-5 going 110mph...I actually have video of it when I was driving from Vegas to LA.

So, if a person from Germany of all places is in a train of cars going 98mph I would understood he probably did not know any better since that most others were doing it...And it is normal in Germany. If I were the cop I would have been polite & told him not to do it again. I would not have threatened him with ass rape! But I would not last as a cop because I would not put up with my fellow officers doing what they do these days.

28. Gee this rises to the level of "Who cares"
Tempest in a teacup if you ask me. Sure the officer was blunt and obnoxious as hell. He also stopped a goofball from BREAKING THE LAW in a reckless and irresponsible manner that could have ended tragically. He also caught the guy in a lie (which if I'm not mistaken is also a crime), then he educated driver on the sad but possible penalty (and ramifications) for his infraction. The driver got off easy.

(would like to have a translation of what was said in German at the end there too)

39. Nope

Pretty much the straight Dem/Progressive ticket for the last twenty years. Just don't see the need to vilify the cop is all. He was doing his job. Are we so weeny that a few gruff words are going to hurt us? Again, it rises to the level of "who cares". Show me where, in the video, that this goes further than a stern talking to.

And did you vote for the tooth-fairy, or Santa Claus?

See, I can resort to childish innuendo too. But, it was after I had added something to the discussion.

38. I agree
The cop may have just been having a bad day, and I won't excuse what he did, but lets not forget the guy was going 98 miles per hour.

Somebody was killed on the highway by my house when a driver rear ended him at around 100 mph. That kind of speed is just dangerous, unless you are in the middle of nowhere, and you can see for miles, and nobody is around (US-50). No excuse for the cop, but don't come crying if you get yelled at.
