In this interview with Rose Aguilar, Riki Ott talks about the health crisis caused by the BP oil disaster in the Gulf. She says she's currently dealing with three or four autopsies and knows of people who are down to 4.7% of their lung capacity and have enlarged hearts. "These people have oil in their bodies," she said.

She believes four to five million people in the Gulf were exposed to either acute or intermediate levels of oil at dangerous levels.

Rose spoke with Riki Ott on the sixth-month anniversary of the BP oil disaster -- one of the largest environmental disasters in U.S. history.

In 1989, Ott, a marine toxicologist who lives in Cordova, Alaska, experienced firsthand the devastating effects of the Exxon Valdex oil disaster.

She's spent five of the past six months traveling back and forth between Louisiana and Florida to gather information about what's really happening in the Gulf and share the lessons she learned about long-term illnesses and deaths of clean-up workers and residents. She's planning to return in January.

2. Our beloved Big Media is owned by the Banks, By Big Oil, and Big Military.

Believe me, as a warrior in the trenches during three years of the nineties, fighting for the right of state of California to end the MTBE inclusion in our gasoline, I know all about the Media.

They even managed to make up quotes of the lead scientist, Froines, in the Blue Ribbon panel that examined the MTBE risk to benefit matter. When his panel found that MTBE was a terrible substance, second only to benzene in its detrimental effects, Big media made up quotes by which Froines said the stuff was safe and that he had proved it was not a carcinogen.

BP now controls much of the "lab research" regarding the surfactant. But if you want to find out about what one indie researcher has to say about the dispersant's possible harmful impacts, read the "dispersant" labeled Youtube in my sig line.

3. Project Gulf Impact
One of the groups working so hard to keep this issue on the front burner where BP does not want it to be!!

Thanks for linking to them!

6. If you're talking about cable, broadcast and major metropolitan newspapers, they are no longer media
They are corporate PR arms. Hence, no reporting on the continuing catastrophe in the Gulf, or the wars or, or the attack on social security, wikileaks (other than hit pieces) or anything else that is relevent to humans.

"Alternative" aka what's left of any real media is still covering it.

4. "We're starving" — "No fish... & any fish we'd see, we wouldn't eat"
6 Months Since BP Oil Spill, Writer and Environmentalist Terry Tempest Williams Asks "Where Is Our Outrage?", Democracy Now, October 21, 2010: We went to Becky Duet's deli , called Jordan's, named after her son. It was 10:00 at night. The lights were still on. We walked in. She said, "The grill is closed." And then she proceeded to tell stories, that in Cajun country they've always viewed themselves as rich, that the bounty is from the waters, that as long as you had rice, beans and bread and had a chicken neck that you could throw into the bayou, you were wealthy. Just a few weeks ago, I received a note from Becky, who's become a good friend. She said, "We're starving, Terry. There are no fish in the waters. And any fish we would see, we would not eat."

7. This story NEEDS to get out. This is huge and effects us all.
This can't be ignored or forgotten about no matter how much BP says they've taken care of it and the Gulf is all set.
Dear God it's so NOT. So many people are sick. Go to you tube and look at the homemade videos of what the beaches really look like. How it's all over Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Louisiana etc.... And the smell??? Rashes, welts, no kidding tell everyone you know about this. Better yet check it out yourself and remember you can go home - they have to live there.

11. Do you want to go out fighting or just stand still & let them kill you?
Doesn't matter if you're ignored.
When your life is in danger, what have you got left to lose?
Maybe a few more people will hear you on your way out.
