They're going to try to use their 'leverage' to lower the top tax rate to 28%. Another tax cut for the rich paid for by cuts in Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and all guvmit agencies they hate like the EPA, Labor and Education.

They'll probably attack the NEA and PBS funding even though it doesn't cost that much because they want to control everything that's said on the airwaves and in the arts.

They'll probably also move forward with their secret plan to install Christia Law by demanding more money for "abstinence programs.

3. Her's an idea
Anyone who votes against raising the debt ceiling should forfeit 40% of their salary,

This is one figure that I have seen for what would have to be cut across the board.

4. I am so sick of hearing this crap.
Want to balance the budget? Bring our troops home and cut the defense budget in half. There is no reason we need to be in a constant state of war, except to enrich the military-industrial complex whose hands are covered in the blood of those they have sent out to die in the name of profit.

But in two years with all the hundreds of millions dollars of anonymous corporations money flowing into the republican party to buy more elections - it will be a different story in 2013

10. no actually..
..Each of the last 6 years have brought increases in the debt ceiling. Since 1940, the debt ceiling has been increased 79 times. This is an issue that has been used to politicize things in the past and this year is no different. The ceiling will be raised.

As far as Obama not signing an increase to the debt ceiling, well that's pure nonsense. Though, you are right that Republicans are receiving more anonymous money from special interests, which is no surprise since they are the party of corporate welfare. Regarding the change in 2013 that you speak of, well it will be a Democratic majority in each chamber of Congress, rather than only one.

6. Why don't they just take hostages?
It would achieve the same effect. "Give us those tax cuts or we start mailing body parts to you"

It's government by extortion.

8. Sounds like they are threatening to use the debt ceiling as leverage
to get more for the rich and leave less for the middle class and poor. Wow! Republican values -- take form the poor and middle class and give to the rich.

Why does anyone earning less than $250,000 per year support them? Masochism?
