I keep hearing that wind turbines are noisy, but when i googled around, the videos posted were eerily silent.

3. The same guy posted another during high winds
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eILJj4mpSDs&feature=youtube_gdata_player

My geuss is they are generally quiet, but there may be some
issues with some manufacturers or models, or when the bearings are bad.

Another reason not to buy cheap chinese knock-offs, perhaps....

4. I have stood less than 100 ft from the base of a winde turbine ...
... and all you could hear was a very faint "whoosh" sound as the blades turned.

I walked about another 200 ft away, and could not hear a thing from it.

5. Just another Republican big-oil lie that the media feeds us! The truth:...wind turbines make
no appreciable sound, particularly at a distance of 50-100 yards. usual distance of reserved land, often fenced in to prevent drunk college kids from trying to climb them, or other mischief.

6. Yeah, but what happens when you have a massive air spill?
Who is going to clean up such a environmental disaster?

8. Air turbines are all well and good...
But they're bird and bat shredders. Saw it for myself along I-65 in Indiana, and at Altamont Pass in CA. there has got to be a better way.

11. Yes they do kill a number of birds
About 100,000 to 300,000 a year. And that is not good.

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2010/may/03/checking-george-will-birds-and-wind-turbines/

The thing is what are our alternatives?

Coal which destroys mountains and the seas.

Oil which destroys the sea (the gulf is still a vast dead zone in many areas and probably will remain so for the rest of our lives)

Nuclear which creates all this waste and occasionally blows up because of natural disasters and man made skimping on safety.

The fact is no technology we have right now is without environmental impact. (Hell even owning a cat has an environmental impact)

But since no one seem eager to go back to the 1800's (and I presume that includes you as you are clearly using a computer) we should at least try to find the technologies that have the least environmental impact we can find until we come up with something even better.
