It begins with us: http://my.barackobama.com/obama2012vid

The politics we believe in starts not with expensive TV ads or extravaganzas, but with you — with people organizing block-by-block, talking to neighbors, co-workers and friends.

And that kind of campaign takes time to build. So even though the race may not reach full speed for a year or more, the work of laying the foundation for our campaign must start today.

In the coming days, supporters like you will begin forging a new organization that we'll build together in cities and towns across the country. And we'll need you to help shape our plan as we create a campaign that's farther reaching, more focused, and more innovative than anything we've built before.

We'll start by doing something unprecedented: coordinating millions of one-on-one conversations between supporters across every single state, reconnecting old friends, inspiring new ones to join the cause, and readying ourselves for next year's fight.

18. Let's all take a deep breath
My snark is for the original post and not for you or anyone involved therein. Political season is a chaotic time for DU, always has been and always will. We, myself included, tend to focus on our small points of difference and not on the loads we have in common. I'm a believer in unity, an activist not a politician, and DU frustrates me, as it does many, during political season.

So, after half a decade here I have only one bit of advice. Let's all take a deep breath.

21. President Obama attempted to work with the Republicans and they stiffed him.
I believe that President Obama has come to the realization that in today's political environment that bipartisanship is isn't even a distant possibility. The propagandists have won the day and have succeeded in total polarization of the nation. The rhetoric is so volatile that it appears that some are advocating armed revolution. The Republican politicians rather than condemning the inflammatory rhetoric have encouraged it as the nation careens toward oblivion. When you examine the extent of the transfer of wealth and the resulting concentration it is inevitable that the nation is heading for perilous times as a two class society evolves.

If Democrats abandon Obama they will only have themselves to congratulate when they find themselves destitute since they will be aiding in their own destruction just as the ignorant working class Republicans assist in their own virtual enslavement. The times are rapidly becoming as desperate as those that FDR con fronted. Abandon Obama at critical time at your own peril and inherit the wind. Now is the time to give our Democratic leadership a clear ultimatum that we expect them to wage an all out campaign to counteract the right-wing lies that are resulting in massive deception of the true situation and is destroying the Middle Class. As Aristotle observed some two thousand years ago that a democracy can only exist when the state consists of large financially stable Middle Class otherwise it will deteriorate into an oligarchy that is in reality a tyranny of the wealthy.

22. The times are rapidly becoming as desperate as those that FDR con fronted.
Not really.
There's plenty of dough around but no taxes. Corporations are making a bundle!... but no taxes.

"Inherit the wind" :eyes: Obama is no saviour. Especially if he continues to negotiate like a marshmallow. But perhaps if we can get the House and the Senate again with some real Pelosi-like action getting done in both.... EVEN IF Obama if president.... we might see some progress on our problems. Maybe.

If a bunch of Repugs get elected, it'll be more crap like we have now.

So the choice is the same: hold your nose and vote for either mild hope for change thru the Houses of Congress, or we again start going backward.

Raise taxes especially including inheritance taxes. Don't you think that Obama is wising up? The National Convention will be the place to demand that he take more effective action. Yes, I agree we need more effective representation.

32. You can't win an election as a Democrat with such
an unenthusiastic support team. That video says it all: Well, if Obama is the best we can get, I suppose I will support him. That is not the way to win an election.

When our president is elected because well the other choice is even worse, our democracy is in serious trouble.

We need a candidate that we believe in, someone we can trust and who energizes us. Obama has had a rough time in office. He had a lot of messes to clean up. But he did not choose his support team well. And the team he has now is even more corporate, even more disengaged from ordinary people, even less concerned about Obama's voters than the one he started with.

I do not want to see a Republican win the government -- the House, the Senate and the presidency in 2012. That is why I am hoping that Obama will decide not to run and allow someone new to run for the presidency -- someone with an idealistic spirit who can lead Americans away from military adventures overseas and back to the basics -- developing a strong jobs economy and a good future for our children.

26. I'll still vote for him....UNLESS
Some one challenges him. Even though since we go through that bi-partisan crap and caving in to the tea party demands (bush tax cut extension) But I'm NOT going into "apathy mode" by not voting because it will make worst results (i.e. Wisconsin)

37. We needlessly have gone into the Lesser of Two Evils mode
Edited on Mon Apr-04-11 04:55 PM by TheEuclideanOne
I hate to say it because the last election was the first time I did not vote the Lesser of two evils. But damn, the difference in the spirit between the last election and this one is so tangible that you can cut it with a knife. Let's face it, the corporations are going to own the elections for as far as the eye can see. Sorry, I can't even get excited by the prospect of him winning.

Note that when I say "Needlessly", I mean that it should have not turned out this way. Obama, what have you done?!?!?!

29. Judging from that video, Obama is going to have a tough time.
The supporters shown in that video seemed to have little joy, little conviction in what they were doing. The general tone was resignation. Well, this is the best we can get for the moment. It isn't exciting, but what's the alternative?

Compare this to 2008. Compare this even to 2004.

The energy level is very low in these people. None of them could convince me that they are excited about working for Obama. It's just a duty for them. That was my feeling.

I know there's rules and sometimes deletion is necessary but I think we need to allow some Obama hating so people can vent steam but feel they can still be a part of du. I don't post but I read comments and articles, watch videos. I want to see du be a place where people can make challenges and even blow up a little bit in this informal comments section. Sometimes there's some really good arguments. It's clear to me that Obama isnt going to get elected from small donations like he did last time. I hope that moderators who do a great job here and are themselves strained in their own way to keep this place civil try thir best to allow room for frustration and keep us together so that we can remain a diverse group. I know it must be difficult to moderate. I don't know what was said but I hope we keep members and views that don't always support the president. We need them.

the ratio of likes/dislikes tilts towards dislike just over 50%, a nightmare if that reflected election results held today. and also a bunch of ron paul bots. still i will support the president for re-election as he will be better than the loons on the right!
