1. I recognize some of the buildings

from seeing them in the background during the first mass protests. The "before" pictures are often posted in Panoramio or similar sites, often by tourists or proud residents.

Here's one from a tourist company website, showing area near where the main video is taken:



but a few more can only be linked, showing the same buildings in the video. Like a family photo album, it was from happier times:

There's a video I remember of a protest march just a block or two from this area -it looked like all other marches in all other times and places. Can't find it though, so I'll post this similar rally, also held in central Misrata on 28.02.2011:

Finally, I think it should be noted that this simple video you've posted was taken at risk of death by sniper.

2. Thanks for the links and the contrast. I could be wrong, but doesn't this look like a sniper?

Can any of DU's gun experts out there confirm if those gunshots we can hear were from sniper rifles?
