YIKES! OK, so this 8yr old was going nuts but you mean to tell me cops could not walk up to him & take the stick away? Or was this punishment for being such a problem child?

As far as the kid goes he seems to be very bright but obviously he has an evil side to him that needs help! I have a cousin who had similar issues as a child but he went on to earn his PhD in Biochemistry...Maybe this child just needs to be challenged? I have no idea but I do not think he should have been peppered sprayed!

I think that 'zero tolerance' approaches to threats of violence on school property became more common in the wake of those events. Should he have been pepper-sprayed? I don't know, probably not, but I don't think the police involved should lose their jobs over it.

Then I watched the video.

This is an extremely bright child with serious anger and aggression issues. I didn't hear anything about his being in, or having been in, any sort of treatment - just prior trouble at school (it's a wonder he wasn't expelled sooner). And where is Dad?

If the teachers had to lock themselves away to protect themselves, what about the rest of the students - did the teachers just leave them? Or was the classroom empty except for this boy?

Pepper spray seemed like an excessive use of force, but apparently it wasn't that terrible if they had to spray the kid TWICE. Justification for it also depended upon who was at risk at the time. If my 8 year old son or daughter was injured by this out-of-control kid, I might pepper spray him myself!

Bottom line, I think I would give the cops a pass this time, but they should have in-service training on alternate ways to handle such a situation. And I surely am glad this kid is now in a school that can better handle him and hopefully give him the help he needs.

14. Using pepper spray in a room full of children is a very bad idea.

I accidentally spayed myself with bear spray. I was loading my backpack in a shuttle van when it went off briefly. It is not a precise weapon. Nobody anywhere near it was able to breath. I was afraid that we might have to take one guy with asthma to the hospital. I got some on my skin and it burned for days.

The police have dealt with him 2 or 3 times before. It sounds like he is finally getting some professional help. I would not want him in a classroom with my child.

The mother said he was well behaved at home. I don't know. The kid was screaming he wanted to kill the teacher! I have seen so many parents who don't understand how their bad parenting causes bad behaviors in children. I would like to spend a couple of days observing the child interacting with parents, teachers, and others.

It's one thing if a kid brings a gun or knife to school but a pointed stick? You mean no one could take it away from an eight year old kid? What is the matter with them?
