A quote from "the idol of my youth":
"Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe." - Frank Zappa
IT'S NOT OUR FAULT WE'RE SO STUPID, US AMERICANS!
How can you be a well informed critical thinker in America that makes informed contributions to our democracy (or democratic republic or what ever the real technical term for our government is?) with so many INSTITUTIONAL FACTORS actively working against you?
1. Americans have to work their asses off - hard to allocate time for newspapers and other medias to get informed when you're working THREE MINIMUM WAGE JOBS to be able to eat and prevent homelessness. Corporations are literally sucking up all the money out of the entire economic system!
2. "Conservatives" have managed to turn our Main Stream Media into full blown CORPORATE PRAVDA, by a concentrated strategic effort of the last 30 years. We are fed pro corporate propaganda to such a degree that our facts are really just bullshit untrue baseless conservative talking points.
3. American Education seems to be focused on vocational aptitude. We aren't turning out good critical thinkers. We turning out people just smart enough to run the machines but not smart enough to realize they're getting fucked by the Powers that Be. (Concept courtesy of the late George Carlin)
4. Civics classes were discontinued in the 60's and replaced with "social studies". This is a point I learned from Zappa, simply that government does not want it's citizen's to know how it works or what those fuckers are up to. So it just won't teach it in school any more!
5. It is perfectly legal to knowingly lie on your news broadcast. This legal precedent was established in Florida maybe 5 years ago? Local Fox TV reporters did a story and their management wanted to alter it to make it more corporate friendly. The reporters went to court and LOST!
6. Karl Rove is still alive.
7. Corporate Personhood/Pre-Great Depression concentration of wealth
The root cause of America evolving into a nation of corporate serfs working on the company farm is the power of corporate money in our perverse political system. From wikiquotes:
"We may have democracy, or we may have wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can't have both."

-just off the top of my head. If this was going to be graded, I would have researched more.
Also, this Brandeis fellow seems like he was a pretty good dude. Fair minded and wise and respectful of the human spirit

All our institutions are failing us, almost simultaneously, because they are all run by SOCIOPATHS.
