It would be nice if president Obama could follow through with Senator Obama's ideas on closing these down!

1. I disagree. Here is part of the list of what Obama did upon becoming President:
Those who were paying attention remember the squalling by the GOP when he did it, too. The charge that he has not kept his promises is false and used by the GOP to demoralize Democrats and keep them from the polls:

46. Closed offshore tax safe havens

47. Negotiated deal with Swiss banks to permit US government to gain access to records of tax evaders and criminals

48. Ended the previous policy of offering tax benefits to corporations who outsource American jobs; the new policy is to promote in-sourcing to bring jobs back.

The rest of a list of 90 promises kept is here:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/11/19/805925/-90-Accomplishments-of-Pres.-Obama-Which-The-Media-Fails-to-Report

There are other places that do a running tally of what he has done, which half of Americans don't know, because the GOP owned media is telling them otherwise.

2. not entirely true
The Levin bill never passed so it is not law yet, so those tax loopholes are as wide open as they were before and as for the USB banker Bradley Birkenfeld who blew the whistle on the rich cheating on their taxes, well, he's the ONLY one who's actually in jail and the rich SOBs are still evading their taxes. He charged that US lawmakers are among tax evaders. It's all a big criminal conspiracy:

3. Executive orders were issued and enacted; Levin's bill is about long-term process.
The numbers for passage of Levin's bill remain insufficient because Dems and independents listened to conspiracy internet radio, MSM sources and didn't get into the legislatures to see how it works. They pouted about the conception fed them by media, stayed home and fulfilled their own prophecies of failure.

Obama is just the POTUS, not a dictator. Even the charges that he has not 'led' have come from the right and infiltrated the Dems. People who pay close attention know he's been working his tail off on in the face of GOP obstruction, DINOs and trying to keep the government from defaulting in the full and bloody way governments have around the world. You know, martial law.

This is a bigger threat than most people realize. And by not voting or voting for the GOP/Tea Party, Americans made that closer to reality, for example in MI and WI. In the meanwhile, Dems insult their own. It's hard to resist doing so, we're drowning in Koch propaganda.

Thanks for your post.

4. I get all that I just don't understand why whistleblower Birkenfeld is in jail
under Obama's watch and why do we still have offshore tax havens, that's all.

5. Government is not reasonable at that level. It requires sustained input to move the mountain

The DOJ dropped charges against Ray McGovern, radical ex-intelligence and military whistle blower. He has traveled around the world and never stops attacking the corporatist/MIC groups.

The most frequent betrayal Obama is charged with is not closing Gitmo. He wrote the order, but like everything else, even the laws passed by legislatures, money is required to bring them to life.

After the GOP media finished a whirlwind campaign claiming Obama, the closet Muslim, was seeking to establish a Muslim majority by letting the prisoners run loose stateside, the funding was never allowed to bring them to trial in the first two years.

Slowly but surely, they are being brought to stand in court under American jurisdiction, not the secret tribunals Bush instituted.

This financial disaster was in the making since the Reagan years, but many people weren't born yet or able to be involved to see the changes that we made to corrode the financial regulatory agencies. That is around 30 years ago and Obama hasn't finished 3 years yet.

FDR also did not make his changes in a few years, and he had a lot more going for him than Obama in terms of the ability to get his message out on the predominant media. Several online outfits like Media Matters have proven with their own words, what is being done to skew American opinion further to the right which includes blacking out all progressive actions, including those of Obama.

I followed all the elections closely in 2008 and Obama knew he was being handed a mess. What the man truly is in his heart of hearts, IDK, but I've seen enough from conspiracy sources and the typical MSM tripe to know they are well paid. I suspect the voices dripping with contempt know exactly the effect that has on their listeners and that's why they use it, so I discount such.

I've enjoyed talking to you, keep on ferreting out the facts and expressing your opinion. Keep bringing out all the discomfitting facts to us. Sorry if I'm so long-winded here. I'll quit now.

P. S. I loved your OP title and it's the truth about how they've leveraged themselves in the last few decades. The US CoC using foreign funding to denounce Dem candidates and fight against environment laws, and the Citizens United case were the icing on the cake. As we move into a more global society, like it or not, we've got some terrible challenges facing us.

6. I don't think Eric Holder doesn't know what he's doing
I don't buy into your argument that this Birkenfeld case is just moving in the wrong direction because of the bureaucratic dead weight of government. Bradley Birkenfeld is the first whistleblower from a major swiss bank in HISTORY and if the administration was really serious about ending the shadow banking system which makes it possible to offshore jobs and profits they wouldn't send this chilling message to future would be whistlebloewrs.

I'm sorry but I am not looking for fast results, only for a move in the right direction and I am not seeing it. that's why my other argument was the Bush tax cuts because repealing that should have been his #1 priority in April 2009. When he conceded fiscal policy to Bush and the republicans for HIS ENTIRE TERM I knew something was not right about this president. Sorry, but that's just a fact. He is giving republicans cover with this continuing fiscal mess in order to cut social programs. Now we both know that the mess was created by republicans the last 30 years, but Clinton had a way to fix it. Why not go back to Clinton's fiscal and monetary policies right away?! He didn't need 61 senators to do that! Unless Barack Obama believes that cutting social programs is acceptable. In fact his budget proposal is 2/3 cuts and 1/3 tax increase!
