New Yorkers are finding out the hard way how their city is raising it's much-needed cash. They're being watched every step of the way and, if they put one foot out of line, they get hit in the pocket. RT's Marina Portnaya reports on how revenue-raising fines, are seeing liberties go up in smoke.

1. I like Steve Martin's line. 'Mind if I smoke?"
"Why no! Mind if I fart?"

The woman in this video will be diagnosed with lung cancer or emphysema sooner than she would
like. She has the look.

2. Police State
I much rather breathe some second hand smoke than live in a country run by GESTAPO.

3. Thank Bush for this. It is all about de=humanizing the population.
Obama is continuing the effort started by Bush.

8. Just curious...but
Where would one find tobacco seeds for growing their own? Seems to me the Tobacco companies would want to keep those out of the hands of most people.

12. She's an addict, not a noblewoman.
She has clearly sacrificed her entire life to satisfy her habit.

God, smokers disgust me. They're like deposed monarchs wistfully recalling kicking peasants in the good old days.

You know what's wonderful about these lost smokers' liberties? The freedom it gives everyone else. All us kicked peasants begging for a breath of clear air get to walk where we want, shop where we want, eat where we want, work where we want.

Poor smokers. They had it all. Then came the revolution.

13. Any time I start to feel sorry for poor abused smokers...
... I recall the countless hours I was FORCED to sit through meetings while the smoke blanket made its way from the ceiling to about waist high.

Fuck the whiny smokers.
