Florida governor Rick Scott makes a succession of idiotic decisions, including cutting unemployment benefits, spending the money saved from that on lowering corporate taxes, and forcing mandatory drug tests upon anyone receiving any public benefits (while making the state pay for the tests of the people who pass). That's fiscal responsibility at it's finest, folks. From the May 10th, 2011 edition of The Rachel Maddow Show.

1. This is a war now, isn't it?
It's Americans vs. republicans. The nation itself is at stake. Right now, the evil side is clearly winning.

3. War, indeed.
But how does one fight a war without weapons? Our only weapon is our vote and even that is unreliable.

6. You don't-- The Republicans have been counting on the chief
Edited on Thu May-12-11 09:21 AM by neoralme
response from Democrats is to send an email to Bernie Sanders. Until there is visible rage on the street, the Republicans will just shine it all on. There needs to be a Democratic Seal Team Six equivalent in Florida right now coming after Karl Rove and his chief minions.

2. Can somebody explain the math to me?
I don't quite understand how 1 dollar of unemployment leads to 1.61 dollars into the economy. I suspect it is related to the money you spend on, say food, continues earning money in the economy because the store you patronized now has additional income, but I would love to learn more specifics on it. Any thoughts or links?

4. basic econ 101--for every dollar invested in the public good...
returns at least 4-5 dollars. military spending creates 0 dollars for the public good. read ike`s speech about military spending.

use this to see how much the wars have cost your state, county,or city.

5. Interesting chart, but how is the cost to a county or city calculated?
Does is pro-rate the county or city's population according to the total national cost?

8. He is one of the very worst in the U.S. He makes Jeb look sane.
Remember, Scott ran the company that was fined 1 billion
dollars for bilking medicare and medicaid.
The rednecks here consistently vote against their own best
interest. He hates Obama so much, he turned down 2 billion in
federal funds for high speed rail. The real unemployment rate
in Florida is close to 20% and his solution is to pass more
corporate tax cuts and stringent anti abortion bills.
madfloridian does a nice job of keeping us updated on her/his
posts. Scott is morally crazy.

9. Hmmm, this gave me a thought
Could it be that pRick Scott will serve one term (or be ousted just before his term is up) and do so many outrageous things while in office that even the nuttiest of reThug Floridians will see him for what he is -- a criminal. In the meantime, he stuffs his pockets and utterly destroys the state. Jebbie-boy can then swoop in, actually looking sane in comparison and be a hero. Scott, having stolen millions or billions, can fall on his sword "to spend more time with his family." So, pRick Scott will have become even richer and Jebbie-boy would then poised for 2016.:grr:

10. I hope everyone now understands
that when they say small government it means small demcracy..corporate takeover. This man is going to destroy the economy in this state for the many and raise it for the few.

14. 8-) thanks
it's all that keeps running through my brain. You know how they do the doublespeak. Small government sounds great
until you realize it has a different meaning for these guys. So small to drown us in a bathtub. I think I would like to have a window sticker saying. "Small government in reality means small democracy..BIG corporatocracy."
