Combining this with the post at Daily Kos that has part of the transcript. Maher held his feet to the fire, and Rahm did not impress the audience.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/9/30/22173/9682

EMANUEL: No, well, if the question is why we just don't bring up - don't bring up the funding - first of all, that's not a way to get the kids out of there. Bill, I'm telling you, that may sound good and be a little sound bite, but the fact is, you have - I have constituents there. Let me tell you what's a part of this. Okay, this is a very tough call for a lot of members of Congress. At least a number of those who oppose this war: $48 billion of the recent request is for the best Humvee now to protect kids.

AUDIENCE MEMBER: Bring them home!

EMANUEL: Here's what you've got to do, though. What we need to do - you know, we have sent up there - there's been three vetoes by this president. One was the end of the war-

MAHER: I know.

EMANUEL: Wait a second. One was-

MAHER: He's - we know you don't have the votes for that.

EMANUEL: Okay.

<. . .>

MAHER: I'm saying, don't send the bill to begin with.

<. . .>

MAHER: It seems like you're playing a game of "chicken" with who supports the troops, and you guys always blink. It's about - come on - it's about being attacked on "you're not supporting the troops." That's what you just said to me is that we're not - and I'm saying, instead of sending them the best armor so they can go out and get killed with the best armor-

Rahm, you can only spin this just so long.

We found out that the candidates supported by the DCCC when Rahm was chair...were told not to talk about Iraq. And they did not.

I thought so. They have told candidates not to talk about leaving Iraq.

EDGMONT, Pa., Oct. 12 — When Joe Sestak announced he was running for Congress, national Democrats and media consultants told him not to talk about pulling troops out of Iraq, arguing it would only encourage the image of Democrats as weak on national security.

2. Being in Iraq and National Security
Congress needs to know that it's the being in Iraq that weakens national security!

9. Welcome to DU, mls! Iraq weakens national security by over extending our military
and adding to the tremendous debt that has left us vulnerable.

Rahm is the reason I stopped donating to the DCCC. I prefer to choose which candidates deserve my $. His undermining of Howard Dean was the final straw for me. He is an opportunist who favors the corporations and big money over the people-imho.

3. I watched the show
and you could hear the jeers and boos from a small portion of the audience. I thought it was rude but I've learned to expect that from some people on the far left who detest any Democrat who isn't Howard Dean.

It's okay to disagree but bad manners not to let a person finish what they're trying to say.

4. Booohoooo
People are dying on this folly, but gosh... gee golly if those in the "far left" are being rude.

Sometimes when people are spewing bullshit, the right thing to do is cut them off so they stop wasting everyones time. I consider lying and putting political interests ahead of people's lives to be far more rude than a well deserved "boo."

Our future is in flames, and some people are still more worried about making sure that the call to the fire department is grammatically and politically correct. We'll end up burned, but gee if we managed to not offend anyone.

You can be polite and die on your knees, or be "rude" and at least give them hell...

12. and let us not forget.......
...that Bill's first show was called Politically Incorrect! I appreciate good manners too but when people are dying, manners are not a priority.

When all of the people started yelling at him, my first thought was not about their manners but that people obviously strongly disagreed with Emmanuel. And even when he was allowed to explain his position, it still did not make any sense!!

5. people are dying... that is worse than a few boos.
If he can't take it - leave politics. He deserves to be booed, in my opinion.

7. Boo!?
That many is lucky that a family member of a soldier didn't storm the stage and beat him crying "Bring them home!"

They were given the majority for one purpose--end this war. And yet he sat there--smug as a man ensconced in the luxury of not having to care for anyone on the battlefield--and laid out their strategy for 2008: ride this war to the presidency.

Boo?! He should be decried every where he goes. There should be a small mob following him from place to place with placards. That's not rude; that's good common sense.

13. Very rude statement you just made there.
Sadly, though, you missed a point in your veiled attack. Governor Dean doesn't speak out anymore. He lets congress lead the way without speaking up.

If you go on Maher's show and throw out spin, you can expect to be booed.

Rahm made it sound like they were using the war for political reasons...that was not a good message for that audience.

15. We've heard it all before...the boos were becasue we don't need to hear it again
How Rham and cohorts are just poor victims and can't do nothing till we get a new president. It's all bullshit and they won't let anyone say anything else. The boos shoud have been much louder but the crowd was being polite and respectful having to listen to the sameold bullshit. And for your information...Howard Dean holds the exact same position as Rham...We listen to true democrats like Kucinich and Edwards not these let's play it safe and see what the corporations will stand for democrats like Fienstein and Nelson and Lieberman.

6. Can you believe...
...that a-hole sent me a fundraising letter through the DCCC after this performance.

I wrote them back a nice scathing letter about how they're playing politics with the lives of our soldiers, and how I would never give money to them again until they get their act together.

They are trying to ride this war in to the White House, and they don't care how many people die, suffer, or get injured along the way.

Screw them.

8. It shows how out of touch with the will of the people they are
They simply do not get it. The crowd was yelling, "bring them home" as he talked of shortchanging the troops.

11. did you hear all the people in the audience yelling at him?
clearly, people do not agree with his argument to not cut off funding.

Bill's right........they are playing chicken with who supports the troops more and the democrats are losing.

14. This is so insulting to Democrats. Keep sending veto bills till we get new president.
Bush will never leave Iraq unless he is forced to and the democrats know this. They might as well not even engage the subject of leaving Iraq. They will not get it through their heads that they need to cut the funding to end the war. The instead are content with the daily death toll of our troops till election time and pray that Bush doesn't attack Iran as well. This is the reason for their unpopularity...they won't do what is necessary to stop Bush's madness, his obsession with the history books.
Stop funding the war and stop saying the troops will get killed if we stop funding because it doesn't fly with us...the people. They get killed more by continuing it than by stopping the funding and withdrawing them.
Stop playing the victim like there's nothing you can do.
Stop saying what a shame and then continue supporting it with appropriations.
Stop looking for republicans to see the light...they have seen the light and it means pushing the war off on the dems.
Stop funding it...force Bush to withdraw our forces...funding for withdrawal only. Anything else is just a lie and an excuse. Stop following and start leading. You keep telling us what you can't do and we keep telling you what you can do...now do it.
STOP FUNDING THE WAR...you've tried everything else and Bush has forced you to do the only thing left...stop the funding.
