With the new developments being made public every day about Rep. Anthony Weiner, it is becoming harder and harder to defend his actions. True, he has been a valuable asset to progressives and someone always willing to stand up for the middle class, but how effective can he be now that naked pictures of him are available online? Mike Papantonio appears on The Ed Show to discuss the continuing saga of Anthony Weiner.

2. I totally disagree with Ed Schultz on this.
Anthony Weiner is a strong spokesman on a number of issues. He had to be silenced.

Whatever his flaws were, the powers that be would have found them and embarrassed him out of Congress.

Virtually every strong spokesman for liberal causes gets hammered in this way.

They started by killing JFK, and now they just kill a man's reputation. But it's the same game.

And the run-of-the-mill, sold-out Democrats always nod their heads and say, well, "It was a lone gun-man, just some nut out there."

This has been going on and on and on and on since 1963.

And look at what Schwarzenegger successfully hid from Californians for over eight years. And then there was Strom Thurmond -- masterly hid an illegitimate bi-racial child from the world while he played the role of the plantation master in Congress. He also got by with it -- while Bill Clinton was humiliated into submission by the Monica Lewinsky allegations.

This is a game and Democrats haven't caught on yet.

4. Weiner is a great
spokesman for the dem party. This happened to him, besides the fact that he did it I guess, but because he was after Clarence Thomas. Ed Schultz is warming up for his new show on Fox News in Beck's slot.
The fact that the dems don't stick together is a terrible problem. Rachel hit it right on last night, what about Vitter? What about Craig? They don't have to resign??? It doesn't help anything for fat mouth like Lim, I mean Schultz, to keep hammering this day in and day out.
Andrew Breitbart needs to water boarded, just for fun. What a POS.

Leave Anthony Weiner alone! Stand together people!

6. Ed working for Fox News is
the way that Ed has been going after Weiner looks. When you know someone is guilty you can go after them, if you think your better than them (he who throws the first stone) or after you have enough info to know that their guilty. Weiner was guilty from the start according to Ed. Maybe he's seeing over the horizon like Beck.

10. "This is a game..." Yes, it certainly is, JD. And it depresses me to think
that Andrew Breitbart is surely laughing himself sick at how easy it all is. He's a worthless bully. And mark my words - he's going to redouble his efforts to destroy everything liberal because he knows his victims won't fight back. It's pathetic.

Your narrative accurately, explains the who, how and why of this issue, going all the way back to 1963. I don't think there's any way of saving it at this point. The Democrats are on a suicide mission.

3. Democrats Do Not Have Balls!
Even the so called liberals in the media seem to be as prudish as the rest of the country even accepting the rethug meme as well. When will democrats quit bellyaching and start fighting back. All the ducks are never going to line up for a clean shot. Democrats need to get their damn heads out of the sand and start protecting their strong voices instead of capitulating on every point. The rethugs preach and campaign of morality and values and then turn around and violate these same with impunity - yet the do not shrink back one inch nor apologize for anything whatsoever!

5. Note that when Ensign got himself into horrible trouble, his buddies
in the Republican Party stood by him, stuck up for him and tried to help him cover the whole thing up.

Here, Weiner's "sins" are strictly verbal and graphic, not actually tactile as far as we know at this point. (There was no flesh on flesh so to speak as there was with Ensign and Vitter -- to be disgustingly crude). Yet, here, Weiner hasn't a friend in the Democratic Party willing to stick up for him.

At the very least, Bill Clinton should be putting in a word for Weiner. Clinton's contacts with Monica Lewinisky were not virtual, they were very real, the hard stuff if you will, but have we heard a word of support from Bill Clinton? I haven't. Have you?

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

And no, I don't do sex-texting. I'm a 68 year old woman who just celebrated 48 years married to the same wonderful man. I credit my good marriage to luck, not virtue. I just happened to meet the one man I could love for all my life when I was very young. Most people are not so fortunate. Thank you, God.

8. Nuts
These people are nuts. Selling, spinning for their corporate sponsors. Bill Clinton was President and didn't get impeached for actually lying in a deposition because it didn't reach the level of high crimes. So why would Weiner be held to a higher standard and he didn't break any laws. Also let's not forget we have Long Dong Silver fan Thomas as a Supreme Court Justice.

15. The right, the beltway bluedogs and dino's for whom Anthony's
thrust, no pun intended; for those for whom Anthony's message is a thorn in their sides, you can count on this farce to keep getting hammered. I am in hopes the folks with no proven record of predicting things; lightweights like Ed, Pap and the folks in congress and the senate who want him out, I take little meaning...Keith, Rachel and Lawrence I take more seriously. Much gravitas will be proven by what happens by this on just how much power the lightweights are given if they can force him out with their meaningless drivel.

It is up to us to keep defending him loud and clear.

11. I'm with Anthony....It really shows the dems for what they are, in that
Pugs can do far worse things and ride them out and dems can't. Why not just raise the surrender flag and be done with it.

Beyond those thoughts it was a bizarre and unbelievably stupid thing to do.

Let he who has not done a bizarre and unbelievably stupid thing cast the first stone.

12. Explain to me how the hell this ONE congressman controls the entire Democratic agenda and the 2012
Edited on Thu Jun-09-11 07:46 PM by RBInMaine
election which is a fucking year and a half away? This is between Wiener, his wife, himself, and his constituents in his district. Anthony Wiener will not be some NATIONAL issue a year and a half from now. Why is this extrapolated to the entire party? And why did that not happen with Vitter and Ensign? This is BULLSHIT ! Let is sink and let his NY district decide. ENOUGH ! I'm becoming ashamed of Pap and Ed on this. ENOUGH !

14. Ed can really be a jack ass
He's been pissing me off all week. I'm done listening to him.

We need someone like Anthony Weiner. Only a small handful of dems can handle this job, and he's one of them. The powers that be have spoken and if we're as weak and stupid as Ed and others think we are, we'd be firing one of the only people who's watching out for us and doing the right thing for the American people. Ed doesn't do anything, but stand on his podium screaming like a right winged moron. Even when I agree with his facts, his tone always rubs me the wrong way and doesn't seem effective for our party.
