Pleajhai Mervin had her wrist broken for not picking up every crumb of cake by a large rogue security officer in California.

So, assaulting and breaking a tiny girl's wrist is worthy of getting the girl and her Mom arrested.

Welcome to Amerikkka.

1. Is there no end ti this
injustice ? How can a system of circumstances wind up with a young girls wrist being broken, Her and her mother being arrested and her mother losing her job for protesting this unjust act ?

A corrupt system, Plain and simple.
I hope this mother finds a very good competent lawyer and send these fascist a loud message.

This is America and this will not be tolerated:nuke:

Man I get so pissed when I see shit like this !

23. TWO girls had their wrists broken by these guards!
The guards also went after a boy taping the incident on his phone. When his sister tried to defend him, she also was assaulted and her wrist broken. Both she and her brother were arrested, too.

26. It's our fault
America is getting what it asked for in tolerating to ANY extent the Republican party. We tolerate the bigots, the O'Reilly's, the Ann Coulters. All we do is sit around and whine. We don't get out. We don't march. We don't protest by the millions. America is DOA . . . don't you get it yet?

3. I don't understand the basis for the mother's arrest?
How could a complaint result in arrest? I am very slow to judge law enforcement until I hear both sides, but I am telling you, this is making me sick. There better be an independent investigation into this.

8. AND she was suspended from her job? This is a terrible story. Outrageous.
I can picture maybe the teenager mouthing off a little to the security guy, she's a teenager, so maybe she wasn't as softspoken during the incident as she was in this clip, but still. This is police state stuff. It's escalating, and it makes me very afraid.

11. The gaurd says he felt threatned by the girl.

"Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies said the guard told them he felt threatened by Mervin.

"There was resistance by her," Sgt. Darrel Brown said. "He went to control her." (This statement is chilling IMO)

Also, it seems that both of the girls were injured.

"Majors and her daughter were arrested in the Sept. 18 lunchtime incident, along with Joshua Lockett, 14, who videotaped the fight, and his sister, Kenngela Lockett, 16, who also suffered a fractured wrist.

Both Mervin and Kenngela Lockett attended the protest with their arms in slings."

12. Oh, I'm sure the Mom got in everyones' face in the office...
when her girl's wrist got broken for no reason; hell, based on my experience I wouldn't be surprised if she shoved someone around because she was pissed -hence the assault charge. But what did the knobs in the office *expect* to happen? They set a monstrous douchebag security guard onto a bunch of teens, he snapped about some freaking crumbs and injured a few of them. Why the hell didn't they take care of that right away? Why didn't they fire the douche, apologize, and share their outrage regarding the attack with the Mom? They could have diffused the situation and figured out what happened so they could make sure it didn't happen again, now they have a lawsuit they will deservedly lose.

I can't believe some of the kids didn't cell phone video the whole thing.

13. According to this
"Majors was denied access to her daughter for 30 minutes, then was threatened with an assault charge, even though no assault occurred"

http://liberaljournal.blogspot.com/

If someone denied my access to my injured daughter, I would have been way past outraged!

20. She doesn't have to worry about being suspended from her job...
The results of her lawsuit should have her set for life. And then she can enroll her daughter in a real school not run by fucking idiots.

This is beyond belief. First that the school would hire a thug like that to be working around children, and then that they would react this way to a parent being reasonably upset. Charging the kid with littering? You've got to be fucking kidding me.

21. At the end of the last school year, the School Board in my district outlawed
cell phones with cameras (and cameras of any kind on campus).

They claimed it was because kids could use them to cheat on tests.

Incidents like this one lead me to wonder if this isn't damage control in advace?

How many other school districts have rules banning cameras?

14. how well trained are Americans in conflict resolution?
some may ridicule the idea of a Dept. of Peace without, perhaps, fulling understanding the concept ... part of its mission would be helping orientate society, our institutions, and individuals with 'conflict resolution' skills vs. the heavy-handed, reactive, authoritarian approach which often leads to conflict vs. diffusing it

There is currently a bill before the U.S. House of Representatives to establish a United States Department of Peace. This historic measure will augment our current problem-solving options, providing practical, nonviolent solutions to the problems of domestic and international conflict.

24. Very Good Point! Thanks...
The USAmerikan police state is really good at "control" (well, maybe not so good now that their deprivations are being recorded on video and publicized)...

The USAmerikan police state hasn't a clue about how to create a civil society...

And we don't do that great a job here on DU either (mea culpa as well)...

The Dept. of Peace is an idea whose time has come but it MUST come to pass if mammalian life on Earth is to survive...

25. Did you hear what the mom said?
She said she went to asst principal and merely asked that the security guard be fired or something, and they just up and arrested her for that! Just for simply asking that one simple thing!

If you believe that's the way it came down, then I've got some lovely swampland I'd like to sell ya.

(I'm not saying the guard wasn't wrong...or even criminal. All I'm saying is...this is only one side of a story. How quickly everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon and not even ask questions.)

31. Yup. Mom looked like a raving liar to me.
Possibly this is what she remembered. If they kept her from her injured child for 30 minutes she might have gone into shock. I've been in life and death situations with my child and I know that I went into shock. With all the prodding in the world, I still can't remember much of what I said or did.

36. That's my old neighborhood. Literally.
I lived there 30 years, worked in the public school system for 23, and my children graduated from a different high school in that district.

It's not a unified district; the PSD is K-8, with a regional high school district. I worked K-8.

I recognized it immediately because of the "William J. Pete Knight" banner in the background. They named a high school after that pos who was the state rep for that area for many years. First a pilot, then a mayor, then a state senator. Pete Knight is famous for his vicious anti-immigrant and anti-gay rhetoric. He's the guy that passed out the infamous racist "immigrants" poem at a republican strategy session, and eventually grudgingly apologized.

http://www.aclunc.org/news/press_releases/latinos_oppose_proposition_22_saying_it_is_anti-family.shtml

His gay hatred went beyond politics when his son came out of the closet and called him on it in 2000.

That community was a small, backwater little RED desert town, dependent on the aerospace industry, until white flight from the sf valley multiplied the population. In the 90s, all the rest of the world flooded in because housing was cheaper than "down below." Racial tensions? You bet.

Keep in mind that, earlier in the 20th century, a whole housing development, with a gas station and a couple of stores, was built just for the black population. Whites loved it, because they were corralled on the outskirts, african americans loved it, and supported it, because they could actually buy a home. No one in town would sell to them. Frank Zappa wrote a song about it: "Village of the Sun." He attended one of the high schools in this district for a time.

In a community that repeatedly elected a local racist, and even named a school after him, I guess this can't be a surprise. :grr:

I hope the family has a good lawyer. I wonder what the official district response will be.

In the local community, of course, the father was pitied.

Among liberals and progressives, though, the son got a lot of support.

37. We need to stop calling the cops and start calling lawyers.
It will need to become standard procedure to bring a lawyer with you anytime you respond to such a situation, and it would be best to get one on retainer ahead of time who is willing to be on call 24/7 (or a member of his or her firm).
