but the message about him is so negative that only the 29%ers - the backwash - would remain unaffected by it. For everyone with a couple of brain cells to rub together, ads of that sort would constitute a damning indictment of PigBoy and all the other chickenhawks.

There are video display units in places like convention centers and airports that air ads. Cable systems often run weather channels in airports with local ads. Heck, having a VCR play one at a public political event, like in a literature booth, would be very effective.

The real trick is distribution. They have to be made in forms that people with modest tech skills (say, a computer, a basic editing program and a DVD/CD burner) can put these clips together and run them on continuous play. Or made available in broadcast form to cable stations...what are they using these days?

Somebody with greater tech knowledge than I have should figure out how, and make the knowledge of how to do it available freely to everyone.

I keep seeing a lot of talking on the boards on DU. If anyone REALLY wanted to do more you would see more in the way of ACTION.

There are a great number of talented people on the net. IF, you could get them to start to put together something concrete.
Make some quality videos. Bring them together into what will become 1 GOOD DVD. Make this available to anyone who wants to download it. Go to the store and buy a pack of recordable discs. $10 - $ 20 a week...whatever you feel you can afford and make copies. Stand on the street and just give them away to as many people as you can. Set up a booth at every open public affair you are allowed to and set up a player and let it run, over and over.
Little by little the message WILL get through to people who now have something to think about.

This is a start. Yes, a small one but it always starts that way. One - Step - At - A - Time.

15. Beware of "giving away" DVD's.

First, have you read much of DU? There are so many arguments about who is right and wrong, what positions and issues are important and which are Nazi propaganda, that having "one disk to rule them all" will be impossible. Better to make the videos available in some form or another and let individuals design their own disk with their own set of issues...or have several masters available for different issues (soldiers and veterans, health and education, etc.) Make them ISO's that people can burn.

But the idea of "giving away" videos is absolutely wrong. In the minds of everyone, "free" means "worthless."

There was a filmmaker named Damon Packard who burned something like 10,000 copies of his unusual movies. He burnt out his Mac doing so. He not only left piles of the disks on top of ATM machines in LA, he hired homeless people to hand out the disks at conventions, and he even blind-mailed them to celebrities. Some of them put out restraining orders on him.

Did this campaign get his message out? Well, did you ever hear of Damon Packard before I mentioned him in the previous paragraph? He lost his home, lived in his car, and is only now recovering some semblance of a life. This sense of "worthlessness" would carry over to the image of progressive causes.

Make the raw videos or ISO files available. Let people burn them. But if you want to mass produce them, make them available to the general public for a small fee - say a $5 contribution to somebody like MoveOn.org or some other campaign (NOT a candidate campaign!) The difference between free and $5 is significant.
