Edited on Mon Jun-20-11 07:40 PM by leveymg
Pray for redemption, and listen closely to the the pleas of the fallen from high places, for they know of what they speak. Listen and learn from them, but do no entirely trust them. But, listen and learn.

Indict Clarence Thomas, and accept nothing less.

Which I can only get bits and pieces of because Current TV does not air in my area. And the pod cast and site for Current TV only shows bits and pieces.

Why don't they podcast the WHOLE SHOW? (or do they and I just can't find it?) I'd pay.

39. It will always be on youtube, DU and probably soon on the
Currant web page. The same way you can watch Rachel and Lawrence, about a half hour to 45 mins after the live broadcast on the msnbc web page. I have shortcuts to all on my front page. A trick with the commercials that hang, leaking memory, is to reload the moment one hangs...they soon get the message and you soon see which are the culprits like Goldman and Allstate. Not making any accusations, but hey.

It's not a bottom of the barrel one either...maybe they'll add it soon. They are good about that sometimes. Never used to have MSNBC with the package I got, and they added that (and no FOX!). FSTV and Link are on it too...so maybe Current will show up soon.

25. And that last line of defense never solves the problem, it never has...
At best they make it temporally subside, but more often than not they make it much worse, by empowering the same type of people that are causing all the problems in the first place.

The last line of defense is why Hitler rose to power, it's why - in the year 2000, we got the first unelected president in U.S. history.

It's why we elected a don't upset the apple cart, pro-capitalist democratic majority in 2004.

It's why we judged a pro-capitalist, smooth talking democrat by the color of his skin and not the content of his character, and elected him as our democratic president.

And thanks to the last line of defense he, predictably, bailed out the criminal banksters and Wall Street cronies, well leaving the last line of defense wondering what the hell just happened.

I heard the Koch brothers financed the last line of defense for the party of greed and stupid, they call themselves the tea-baggers.

Who will be financing the last line of defense for the rest of us, will we fare better then the tea-baggers?

When I despair, I remember that all through history the ways of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it--always.

41. hmm...
If the American people would read books and learn about character, they would stop voting the warmongering capitalist cronies into office.

And then there would be no reason to have peace rallies and war demonstrations.

What books have you read about character?

What can you tell about a politician before their elected?

You want peace, then learn about character and the importance of conscience.

There will be no lasting peace until people understand the psychology, and stop empowering those who take us into war.

Need a list of books to research, buy, read, and study?

Try these for a start:

In Sheep's Clothing by George Simon Ph.D.

People of The Lie by M. Scott Peck M.D.

The Authoritarians by Bob Altemeyer Ph.D

The Mask of Sanity. By Hervey M. Cleckley

The Sociopath Next Door by Martha Stout Ph.D.

Without Conscience by Robert Hare Ph.D.

Snakes in Suits by Robert Hare Ph.D & Paul Babiak Ph.D.

Political Ponerology by Andrew Lobaczewski

Don't like reading... Well then just keep going to peace rallies until the psychopath wars put an end to the human race.

45. Quid Pro Quo,
Larry Ogg, Quid Pro Quo:

The Drama of the Gifted Child, Thou Shalt Not Be Aware, and For Your Own Good; all by Alice Miller.

The Mermaid and The Minotaur by Dorothy Dinnerstein.

The Dog Ate my Homework by Vincent Barry.

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz.

Blaming the Victim by William Ryan.

Walden and Other Writings by Henry David Thoreau.

Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein.

The American Age by Walter LaFeber.

The Paranoid Style in American Politics by Richard Hofstadter.

And, this is just the tip of MY proverbial iceberg. Please don't patronize people whose efforts to encourage are extended in good faith. (I've read Peck--also Kant, Rousseau, Nietzsche, Marx, Glieck, Hofstadter, and a host of other scientists and philosophers. I am a voracious reader, and I fully recognize the merit of honing one's critical thinking skills.)

BTW, belittling the activism of those of us who plan to assemble indefinitely in Freedom Plaza is both negative and mean-spirited.

47. chervilant, It was not my intent to patronize or belittle the activist...
who seeks positive change and an end to war.

I apologize for not praising the justifiable motives that drive them, and I apologize for not stating that I am certainly a grateful beneficiary of many hard fought victories.
And I apologize for the “don’t like reading comment”, it was rude, condescending and uncalled for.

That being said…
Many people worked hard to win a democratic majority in 2004 and the White House in 2008. Many of these people are greatly disappointed at how these hard-won victories were squandered by the democratic leadership. But that does not mean the efforts of the activist should not be praised.

The reason for disappointment following such a hard fought victory is that most peoples natural understanding of the world lacks an understanding of human psychology, and because of that, their hard work had little effect on changing the way Washington thinks or does business.

This does not mean that activism is not important, however, and I don’t mean to sound condescending or belittling to the efforts of so many great people doing what they can in a way they are best familiar with. However, if they don’t understand the psychology of this beast we call politics, their efforts will be met with much disappointment, because their not changing the kind of person we vote for on election days. And that’s the only way we’re going to change the way Washington thinks and does business.

And thanks for the list of books, I will definitely look into them.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

30. That's exactly what Olbermann was talking about
He said we're in this situation because of the malfeasance of one party and the timidity of the other. He meant that we, the citizenry, are all that's left to fight back. We have no press and no party to fight for us.

I don't even consider myself a Democrat anymore. They enabled the right-wing onslaught over the last thirty years by going along to get along. Both parties are now completely unrecognizable, a parody of their former selves.

16. It has always and forever
been and ever shall be the role of people with principle to comfort the afflicted, and even in the best of times, to afflict the comfortable.
Dare I say that in this time, our National Problem might well be summed best in this fashion:
We have become to comfortable
in what we think we know
To remember the affliction of Ignorance
That can steal away all else
While we seem to be so comfortable
by and for ourselves alone.

40. He is too kind
to members of the Democratic Party for calling them out for being 'timid'.

There is nothing timid about their waging wars - especially when they use humanitarianism as a rationale for doing so.

They are also not timid about throwing their own left under the bus or ignoring them or telling them that they are idealist or are asking too much

And finally, they are not timid about excusing the high crimes of the Bush Administration when they took impeachment off the table
