I can't believe that banker (or the COPS for fuck's sake) didn't even bother to call the car dealer (and verify this man's story) to see if this guy was legit if they thought something was up...it just takes basic people skills and a little bit of time and effort and the most simplistic understanding of customer service to NOT have this kind of thing happen and prevent getting the living hell sued out of you.

The only time my bank ever questioned the right of an individual to cash a check of mine was when a Native carver tried to cash one after I bought a mask from him.

11. Some years ago my attorney

tried to cash a check that I had paid him. He went to my bank and they refused to cash it, saying his ID wasn't adequate plus other nonsense. By the time my husband arrived at the bank to 'verify' the check, security had been called. It wasn't pretty. My attorney was livid that he was being treated like a criminal.

My attorney's crime, "cashing a large check while black".
