Last year, 28 year old Ikenna Njoku of Auburn, Washington was jailed for 4 days, causing him to lose his job and his car. His "crime": he attempted to case a legitimate Chase check issued to him by Chase Bank. An employee there, assuming him to be a criminal, started the ball rolling that led to his false arrest.

4. I'm sorry, but I have to wonder.

If I had walked into that bank (white, forty-something, female) would that same employee have been suspicious about me being in possession of an $8,400 check?

I can't believe it's been a year. That young man is too nice and mild-mannered for his own good. If it were me, I'd have been arrested for a whole different set of crimes.

5. What I find extremely difficult to understand.....

...is how this bank employee failed to verify the legitimacy of the check. Most bank checks have registration/identification numbers on them which should have allowed this bank employee to readily verify whether it had been legitimately issued (via in-house systems). The statement she makes that "the check appeared to be fraudulent" doesn't hold up if she can't say why. The article doesn't explain why she thought it was fraudulent.

- In my opinion, she should at minimum be demoted if not lose her position if she's that dense. And the bank should be sued until kingdom come.......
