On March 19, 2002, Phil Berrigan warned about the dangers of the Bush-Cheney Gang. He said, "The times are ominous."

1. I had the honor of meeting Phil and Dan Berrigan
back in the 70's at Holy Cross. Two finer men this country has never produced. Back then, they understood liberation theology. A shame we don't have more clear thinkers and leaders like the Berrigan brothers today.

4. How fortunate you were, OIW! I corresponded with Mitch Snyder
for a couple years before his death. The Berrigans motivated him immensely in his mission for the homeless.

There are some truly incredible people out there. :hi:

I've met some interesting people over the years...Mike Harrington, Fred Harris, George McGovern, Stephen King, Pete McCloskey, Tom Hayden, Tim Leary, Bob Wier, and Richard Albert. But Phil and Dan were special...they had a righteousness and moral sense of being that I've never seen in anyone else up close.

6. It makes life just a bit more interesting when you
are able to 'speak' with those that have been up close with the giants or have had brushes/encounters with them.

How sad that Phillip is gone:

Philip Berrigan, apostle of peace dies at 79.

Catholic New Times

BALTIMORE -- Philip Berrigan died on Dec. 6 at about 9:30 p.m. at Jonah House, a community he co-founded in 1973, surrounded by family and friends. Berrigan died two months after being diagnosed with liver and kidney cancer, and one month after deciding to discontinue chemotherapy.

Approximately 30 close friends and fellow peace activists gathered for the ceremony of last rites on Nov. 30 to celebrate his life and to anoint him for the next part of his journey. Berrigan's brother and co-felon, Jesuit Priest Daniel Berrigan, officiated.

Found this great quote from Daniel -

But how shall we educate men to goodness, to a sense of one another, to a love of the truth? And more urgently, how shall we do this in a bad time?
Daniel Berrigan, S.J.

Still aptly applies to the present, imho.

Thanks for sharing, OIW. :hi:

2. There was a period in my life when this would have been broadcast
...live on one of the major TV networks, probably CBS or NBC, but here we are today seeing this 5 1/2 years after the fact on an underground blog.

Thank you for posting babylonsister :hi:
