Ex-CIA officer Robert Baer interviewed by Keith Olbmerman on Countdown discusses the usefulness and reliability of torture and says torture doesn't provide good intelligence. He adds as well, parenthetically, that since the main source for background information on 911, Khalid Sheik Mohammed, was tortured, he is, "not quite sure what happened on 911."

1. It is simply unbelievable! Not only is torture immoral but it doesn't work!
The fact that we even discuss torture as an option disgusts me. Now this.

4. I was surprised (I guess) that John McCain was adamantly opposed
to torture - I suppose it makes sense due to his history in VietNam - but he was the lone voice at the Republican debates about this (was he the only veteran too?)

2. If nothing freaks me out
about this administration it's the torture policies and the unlawful detentions. It so reminds me of the German concentration camps and the Nazis. We must have sadists at the highest level of government. Someone enjoys this or it wouldn't be being done.

3. I like that line when he said it: "not quite sure what happened on 9/11"
I'm not quite sure either, but I know the official conspiracy theory put out by the gov't isn't it. How long did it take the American public to laugh at the single bullet theory?

5. The good old Iranian 911 connection
http://www.911blogger.com/node/1780

Hartmann: ..by writing fiction you have been able to say some of the things that the CIA wouldn't let you say in non-fiction, is that an accurate statement?

Baer: Absolutely, you know the two things the CIA wouldn't let me write about - the Iranian connection to 9/11, and number two I get to take on these fictional truths - and they are fictional truths surrounding 9/11 - the whole conspiracy theory idea of what other countries were involved, was an individual involved - an American. Questions like that, and put it into dramatic art.

...

Baer: The other question is Iran, who setup a strategic relationship with Bin laden in 1996 - this I know for sure, and there are a lot of questions out there.

Hartmann: But Bin laden is a Sunni Arab, and Iran is a Shia country - why would they do that?

Baer: Yeah.. tactical alliances, anything that is anti-American - anything that will cause the United States problems..

...

:sarcasm:

7. Maybe they have other motives for using torture instead of getting information
Like to terrify everyone. Make people afraid to say anything against them.
