1. As a retired Postal Worker K&R
This whole ploy is just more union busting and privatization bullshit. Support your letter carrier and postal workers.

We also endorse OWS.

2. There isn't excess capacity of mail processing centers. That is a lie.
Edited on Thu Dec-01-11 10:39 AM by matmar
With the current overnight standard in place, there is not overcapacity of processing centers. First class mail volume has dropped but that is due to the current economic depression we are in. Mail volume will increase as the economy gains strength.

What they don't tell you is just how big a chunk of their money problems are attributed to their boondoggle investment into new Flat Sorter Sequence Machines. There should be an investigation into that "Rube Goldberg". They spent at least $1.4 BILLION dollars for these machines to process an ever dwindling volume of mail (according to the USPS).

I wonder if the USPS is covertly using the huge cost of these machines as part of their presentation and justification for changing the overnight standard and closing mail processing centers. In other words, an accounting trick due to a major f**k-up.

Arguing for changing first class mail delivery from an overnight standard to a 3 day standard giving the USPS the excuse that they have overcapacity in mail processing centers is sort of like being at a High School track meet and one sprinter is complaining that the race is too short and wants to run slower and longer while the other sprinters run the original race. How do you come out the winner in that scenario?

3. Make the PO a part of the extension of UI for millions!
It is an easy fix. It would mean saving 120,000 jobs and 3200 post offices around the country. The 2006 lame duck session law orchestrated by the repugs to favor UPS and FED EX, could be fixed and it would save the jobs and the PO's. I am really tired of the repugs hurting our people and our country. Insist that Obama save the POs.

6. The reduction of first class mail started before the recession.

The San Diego Processing Center is now at 40% of its high volume.

The recession did speed up the decline of first class mail however as more and more customers use online banking and emails in lieu of snail mail.

Disregarding the basic facts on the change of first class mail isn't going to strengthen our position.

The issue is and should be one day service, which the speaker rightly explains would be the nail in the coffin of the PO.

The Post Office should maintain the overnight standard and expand it to small cargo.

As more and more purchases are made on line the PO should become the preferred option for most homes, that is the future of the PO.

7. I could only take 4 minutes... it makes me so disgusted on behalf of the postal workers!
Edited on Thu Dec-01-11 03:52 PM by Divine Discontent
what they're doing is destroying the quality of delivery that the postal service has offered for every generation of American, and I cracked up at the first guy sort of saying, "I couldn't understand but about 20% of what she said, so if you all are going to talk like that we aren't going to have a good meeting". HAHAHA! She was so unclear in her English, but, hey, she's got a big ol fat cushy $60G+ job to destroy the post office. The guy at 3:30 is so right, they bailed out all these other industries, but they act like the post office is broke, but it's not! The Congress forced them into being broke by forcing the covering of pensions for people not even alive yet. What a sham!

There is a lady at an Orlando post office who said she's good friends with DANIEL WEBSTER (yeah, that guy who got Grayson's seat) and she doesn't ask him about post office stuff and she wasn't even aware of his desire to take away her job! The office she's at will probably be cut in half or gone entirely if they go through with their plans to displace the workers at the processing plant at the airport (why in the hell would you take the mail sorting away from where you're going to be bringing it back to hours later for flight???!!!) to move the sort to Lake Mary which is not near downtown Orlando! She's a fundamentalist idiot that sits in the same pew as Webster at church sometimes so she defends the man who is helping kill her job! Morons...

I also know that the Mansfield sort facility is being closed down between Columbus and Cleveland, and all the mail is being sent up to Cleveland for sort, then being driven back down to the offices. It's happening all over the country, and it's ABSURD! Some Congressperson needs to rant like a preacher about the insanity of what they're doing - when the post office is one of the greatest things in America!!!
