1. Take away jobs and safety nets and add discrimination and all you've got left is FREE MARKET.
Edited on Fri Dec-02-11 12:32 PM by valerief
FREE MARKET means no laws. Now that's criminal.

4. It absolutely resonates with those on the hard right
They hate everybody they don't know personally, unless they're rich.

6. his presumption is that all or almost all poverty is caused by individual irresponsibility
well some of it is. But most poverty is caused by circumstances beyond an individual's control. He seems incapable of conceiving of misfortune. Which means that when he looks at a poor person - all he is psychologically capable of seeing are people of inferior character. Thus we are back to the Calvinist notion that success is a sign of noble character and failure is a sign of poor character. It is chilling to imagine someone looking at the world that way. It answers the age old question of , "how can someone be so heartless? How can someone be so cruel?" If misfortune is entirely one's own fault - then sympathy and empathy are nothing more than naive excuse making for the lazy and irresponsible.

Caring for the poor is an integral part of Catholic social teaching. He should be ashamed of himself. :grr:

13. How can he be a member of the Catholic Church when he is according to them living in sin?
The Catholic Church used to hold absolutely with the words of Jesus that marriage was a permanent bond. According to that teaching, which was upheld for centuries, until the new breed of pedophiles and their enablers took over their was no way out short of death. There could be no forgiveness until the person agreed to break their relationship and return to their wife or agree to live without sex. It was a tough standard. Now they grant annulments, however, someone that has been married for a number of years and have children would be facing objections. You can agree with it or not, but that was the teaching. Newt is a disgusting bastard at best. The perfect Republican candidate for president.

15. He's a recent convert to the Catholic Church
So I guess his previous marriages weren't recognized by the church.

He is a loathsome person. I hope that his parish priest sets him straight about church teachings on social justice and the poor.

You mean like looting TRILLIONS and TRILLIONS of dollars from the United States? Oh yeah, that's right. THOSE ILLEGAL thefts don't count since they were made by RICH KIDS who grew up to become bankers, stock brokers or bribed off politicians.

I bet if you added up all the illegally gotten money from poor folks and combined it all. It would only be a tiny fraction of what rich folks have gotten illegally.

Excellent point, Xicano. Of course he never served in the military. He received a deferment during Vietnam because he was studing at Tulane University.

14. Unemployment of 9-20% among adults, and Gingrich is
concerned about employing children.

The man is totally irrelevant and totally unaware of what is going on in this country.
