Incredible discussion on global poverty and the climate crisis. Bono's confessing his environmental sins to "Father Al" was priceless. An entire hour of intelligent straight talk from all of them. And in regards to Bali I have to say that I was disappointed with the results and feel as though it has already been forgotten. As Bono explained in this video as well, the G8 millenium goals regarding global poverty will not be realized... we are failing our obligation as human beings to leave this Earth a better place when we leave it than when we found it, and that is tragic because we do have what we need to accomplish that! And I also do believe that you cannot discuss global poverty without intertwining it with climate change, global water scarcity, and other social injustices including education, which many poor people in developed countries need desperately in order to deal with the problems they are facing. And that also now includes national security and terrorism... Water and food shortages can lead to terrorist acts just as easily as wars over oil, and we as a global community in my view are woefully unprepared for the catastophe that awaits us if we don't get our act together, and that means a global climate treaty signed by the UNITED STATES including all developing countries working amicably and equitably to solve this crisis. As Al Gore stated here, we are running out of time. We need to show people in developing countries how to adapt and to mitigate, and in rich countries we need to be telling people the truth about this regardless of what those who try to block that truth for their own benefit do.

1. It's excellent. I watched it earlier on C-Span.
I'm still holding a thread of hope that somehow Gore will run.

3. The only chance
that Gore can be relevant, IMHO, is if Obama or Edwards become POTUS. If H.C. gets into the WH then Gore may become just a cipher in history. Too bad he was not able to make the run for '08.

4. This isn't about Al Gore's relevance, this is about making climate change relevant
Edited on Fri Jan-25-08 11:19 PM by RestoreGore
And he will ALWAYS be relevant as a former Vice President, Nobel Peace Prize winner, statesman, and leader of this fight regardless of who sits in a White House. But this video is about important issues. Again, too bad people don't want to really discuss the relevance of that. It speaks volumes about why this is not primary in debates as Mr. Gore made reference to in this very video.

6. The 2 are connected by nature. The more global poverty, the more global climate change
The macro and the micro are interrelated. So too are man's nature and nature of the world.

8. Yes and as we now see, developing countries are suffering most from climate change
Edited on Sat Jan-26-08 10:40 AM by RestoreGore
And countries like China and India are in quite a dilemma now. They wish to have the economic impact America has, so how do they achieve that without destroying the planet? Our Industrial Revolution helped lead us to the effects we are now seeing in the world... that is why I believe we need to work with developing countries like China, India, and others to not deny them the right to be economically viable, but to do so by choosing to green their economies instead of thinking the only way they can get there is by using the same dirty methods we did to get there. Countries can most definitely be economically propserous without fossil fuels... and that is also a message this country needs to get as well.
