Throughout the Bush administration media corporations have helped our government sell war. This mashup evidences just one tiny aspect of that thought control.

5. Geez, I didn't know that they canceled the Montel Williams show after that
I didn't watch his show-was it on Fox? Unbelievable that this kind of censorship is STILL going on!

6. Yep it was carried on local Fox channels, not the cable Fox
I was very impressed with how Montel handled himself.

But what can anyone say?

Remember the smirker in chief saying "You are either for us or again us." That pretty musch says it all...

It is an oligarchy with occasional auctions letting us think that we have a true democracy.

8. What strikes me most...
..is Montell's question and answers

"How many people have died in Iraq since January 1?"
"It's about 20."
"No, it's 28."

This is what I see over and over and it REALLY pisses me off. 28 AMERICAN SOLDIERS died in that time. Human casualties in general were in the hundreds, if not thousands. The media consistently fails to refer to and track Iraqi deaths as "people". And to think about it, they didn't even sign up for it.

3945 US casualties total at the time I post this
This is a number we're all familiar with.

An October 2006 study by John Hopkins University estimates the number
of Iraqi civilian deaths resulting from the war at 654,965 and Iraq Body Count, as of
January 20, 2007, puts the civilian fatality count at 59,873
.

How many people know of these numbers?

Every life lost is a tragedy.

11. The number 28
Edited on Tue Feb-05-08 07:51 AM by mrbluto
Yes Iraqis have died in numbers an order or two of magnitude greater that US soldiers.

But Montel isn't diminishing their tragedy by bringing up the number 28, or focusing on it.

He's pointing out how hypocritical the MSM is and shills for the war are in particular.

I think we all here on DU get that we're closing in on one million for the Iraqi body count.

Pointing out the fact that the talking heads on Fox can't keep track of the impact on our own troops has a chance of shocking red-state folks into consciousness. (if they're not already) Highlighting the Iraqi losses to the typical Faux News viewer is merely going to prompt them to tune you out.

Focusing on the 28 was a tactically good move and a wise approach to getting some progress.

It's not necessary to bring up all points every time - there's a thin edge on a crowbar for a reason.

Montel took quite a risk and paid the not inconsequential price for not playing the game.

Don't insist that the perfect be the enemy of the good.

That stance has derailed too many previous efforts and has cultivated too many extreme cases that bite us on the ass.

Thugs show no hesitation at pounding an issue into oblivion with the clubs inflexible ideologues give them.

9. Thank heavens for Keith Olbermann and Dan Abrams and people brave enough to speak out
I wish the video had mentioned that Catherine Crier, after many years of covering court trials on CourtTV,
and having once been a Republican-appointed judge, had her TV show canceled after soundly criticizing Bush
and defending our Constitution. I expect there are just too many brave people to recognize. :(

14. MSNBC is the Devil!
Apparently it's ALL the American media outlets who are crooked and involved in Bush and Cheney's coup attempt. Will we as a nation be forced to scrap these channels like MSNBC and CNN and Fox and start all over with news sources we can trust? The American news media sold their souls, so how can we the American People trust them?

He did the groundwork and was the sacrificial lamb. Without Phil, we wouldn't have Keith or Dan.

20. Thank you.
It makes me feel less crazy to see that a few did try and stand up to the * regime. You wonder why more don't' show the courage. How do they look themselves in the mirror. Lost job, lost lives...the two just don't compare. Peace, Kim
