Fired should be just the beginning. This was a criminal assault and the deputy needs to be prosecuted. The man should sue not only the deputy that dumped him, but the onlookers who did nothing should likewise be suspended, and the entire force trained properly regarding handicap issues.

5. It doesn't appear to me his arms/hands are 'useful'.

My left side was paralyzed by a head injury. Most people don't notice it because I can move my arm and have very limited use of individual digits but it is still considered paralyzed. The angle of his hand and the bent of his fingers tells me he has very limited use of his hand. His arm movement is coming from his shoulders.

7. Even if he could use his arms how does that make him able to

get out of the wheelchair? I'm in one due to my back and legs being riddled with arthritis. I can't get myself out of or into one. I have to have an aide help me. I can't walk. It seems to me that this man was in the same condition or worse. It is more than scary to me that the police would be be allowed to do this to someone. I sincerely hope I never encounter police.

My question was, "If he can use his arms, isn't he a paraplegic?"

As I understand it, a paraplegic person someone who has lost the use of their legs/lower half of their body due to paralysis and a quadriplegic person is someone who is paralyzed from the neck down. The victim has limited use of his arms, so I asked if he's paraplegic, rather than quadriplegic.

Nowhere did I say anything about him being able to get out of his chair, nowhere did I defend the actions of the police involved, nowhere did I say anything beyond, "If he can use his arms, isn't he a paraplegic?"

to a medical doctor to make that determination.
