R.J. Eskow joins The Young Turks to talk about how McCain *could* be easily torn down in the media (and also how the majority of the country is currently unaware of what McCain really stands for). You may know R.J. from his writings on Crooks and Liars or Huffington Post, among other things. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rj-eskow

PS---You can always watch the Show Live 3-5 pm ET, with a Rolling Post Game 5-7 pm daily Monday-Friday at www.theyoungturks.com The RPG often contains political talk but also many non-political topics to lighten things up (and yes, that audio may not necessarily be work-safe).

Also, if you can't watch live, the 3-5pm portion of the show (politics) streams the rest of the day, all day right after the Post Game Show ends leading up to the initial show at 3pm.

1. Use a Rovian strategy - attack what is supposed to be McCain's strength...
Edited on Fri Feb-29-08 11:18 AM by BlueManDude
that is his national security/military credentials.

Point out how the military has been used and abused by this administration and the insanity of Mccain's Iraq "policy."

Hoping that national security won't be an issue is a losing strategy. With the presidency national security is always issue number 1. Especially now.

4. Why the hell mention rove/rovian in this context?!
First off, you wouldn't really attack mccain on his strength, you would attack him on his lies and hypocrisies and there are a LOT of them. Where are his national security/terrorism/military credentials? "Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran"?? This guy is nuts, we know it and has NO clue whatsoever! He already admitted he has no clue about the economy... so where are his REAL strengths? And I don't mean these fake-ass "he's republican so his strength is security, fiscal responsibility etc" strenghts...

Second, you would NOT LIE attacking mccain on these issues! He is such a "straight-talker", there must be no place left for some self-esteem with all his "straight-talk" and sucking up to whoever there is to suck up to.

This guy is so pathetic in and out so what the FUCK would be "rovian" about calling him out on his BS?!

Do we really need call what would be a legitimate and TRUTHFUL way to campaign, "rovian"???

5. I think you're getting too caught up on that phrase
Part of Rove's strategy was to attack people based on their *perceived* strengths. Whether or not McCain is *actually* strong on say, national security, is irrelevant. Public perception is that he IS strong(er) on some issues.

We all think Rove is an awful, vile person, but it doesn't mean we can't extract a couple of gems from the BS he put out (it would be crazy not too, assuming the gems are ethical and effective). Again, in this case it means attacking *perceived* strengths and there's nothing wrong with that, no matter what we call (or don't call) it.

6. yeah, maybe I am but look what you said yourself...
...you said "assuming the gems are ethical and effective". See now imo, there is NOTHING ethical in rove's playbook.

The ethical stuff has already been "invented" long ago. But you're right, nothing to say against trying to adopt some of his ideas in legitimate, ethical ways.

What gets me going is why stain yourself with this fucking pos's label? It's the association I am worried about... such stuff sticks.

7. I see what you mean
I understand your perspective. It still doesn't bother me in this particular context and I'd like to think the association won't stick!

9. I think that those numbers should be put in..
some ads to show how much money they are spending on the war and other nonsense especially, when the repubs talk about how much money they don't want to spend on U.S. citizens. A lot of people don't really realize what is going on...
