Canvasing for Obama
This afternoon we canvased in Albany for Obama. We got about 50 houses covered and I was surprised at the responses. Not a single household said that they were definitely not going to vote for Obama. Quite a few were undecided and we did our best to make a good case to vote for him. No one said that they were definitely voting for Hillary. No one at all. Younger male and female couldn't wait to cast their vote for him, several black families were undecided, older women undecided. It was a good day. There were also a lot of people in the headquarters phone banking and people coming in to pick up literature for lit drops and to put up signs. We got some buttons and stickers and a sign which I still have to figure out how to attach to something, the ground is frozen solid and it won't go in. We never had a primary this early in NY and we also never had one that was meaningful either.

1. Thanks for your hard work.
Interesting that you ran across no one who was definitely going to vote for Hillary.

Though I do expect her to win NY state handily, perhaps she's taking her backyard a little too much for granted.

3. It was Albany County
and they are far more liberal. I'm in Saratoga and Hillary will win here so we did Albany to try to get people to vote. Obama can at least get more delegates if he takes the county. I think he can do well downstate too in the city.

2. That is great! Thank you for your efforts!
I'm trying to get up the courage to make some calls for MoveOn...I've done it
before, but I'm feeling kind of timid today for some reason.

4. I find calling
much harder than going out and seeing people face to face. It is so frustrating too to get almost no answers!

5. I don't live in a Super Tuesday state, so calling is my only option.
But you're right. It's kind of a drag when all you get are machines...

6. calls
I guess most people are like me and don't answer unless they recognize the caller ID. I also have a bit of a phone phobia and have tried to do political calls and just couldn't. Even canvassing I ring the doorbell and hope that nobodies there but at least I can leave the flier.

7. I do that too
screen all my calls. And I usually don't like being called either so maybe that's part of why I don't enjoy doing it. DFA did a class in their night school and two of the rules were never to go door to door alone and never step inside someones home. When you go with someone else it is much easier, we take turns starting the talking and can help each other out. I've had a few people get angry over someone ringing their doorbell but for the most part people seem to appreciate the literature and a chance to talk personally with someone. As far as getting the votes studies have shown canvassing to be far more effective than calls or mailings (which are expensive for a campaign also).

8. The Obama campaign has an easy-schmeezy system
You get two big phone numbers at a time. No biggy there. It's completely scripted and today is just gotv. Are you going to vote and do you know who you're going to vote for. You push the button for the answer. That's it. It's all about counting numbers and tracking voters. No twisting arms or anything like that. Go For It!
