1. I would guess that Gore would stay out of it at least until a week or so after June 3rd -
the very last Democratic primary date. Maybe if Clinton hasn't stepped down by that time then he would step in as an elder statesman of the Democratic Party - after Obama has a clear majority of pledged delegates and after all (or virtually all) superdelegates have weighed in. I believe that Gore will resist impacting the process, but may step in to comment on its legitimacy after it has run its course.
2. could be I just find the juxtaposition of Obama going to Florida the day after winning
the pledged majority curious. Gore in Florida obviously has interesting symbolic value and the campaign has a knack of having just the right endorsement just at the right time. It could be that the party elders gave her the word after Texas said enough after Indiana and now are going to end it. Also with April financials coming out on Wednesday they realize that the Clinton campaign is about to become a laughingstock and an orchestrated move has been scripted.
However if I was betting I would be be that you are correct.
3. It would have amazing symbolic value. Gore has the temperament to step up
and do what must be done at the right moment - especially when the situation is difficult - so you might be right.
Still... I won't make any predictions until I see him in action.
Obama has said that while he would like to have Gore's endorsement he doesn't expect it because after winning a Nobel Peace Prize stepping into Presidential politics is a step down. I agree, but I think his role would be different if the race had been very clearly decided and Gore was stepping in just to underscore that fact.
I am pleased to hear Indiana come up often in discussion as the end of Clinton's campaign -- I worked so freaking hard that it took me a week to recuperate. I am headed to Kentucky to canvass on Sunday because...? Because I like to um...dream the impossible dream?
