Poll question: If Gore ran, would 2008 be any different from 2000 in terms of support from the Base
In 2000, Gore ran for President and was savaged by both the press and the Republicans (admittadly the Press did the bulk of the trashing, but the Republicans did their best). In 2000, much of the base was too busy telling each other funny jokes about Gush and Bore to defend Gore from these Calumnies (Love Store, the Internet, Love Canal, and so on and so forth).

Why would 2008 be different? Have we really learned our lesson? Or is Gore still a DLC Centrist in populist clothing?

Bryant

1. I think the award winning performance of dubya
during the past "eight" years will get the dem base behind whomever the dems nominate. Who says he ain't worth anything? However, a Gore candidacy would be a slaughter of whatever fool the gop nominates.

Do you have any specific critique besides it being another poll? Or are you just a hater?

4. You can't be serious
I don't know about you, but George Bush has been an anvil around the head of every person I know and we've
all been collectively thrown overboard.

The base was gripped by the collective insanity that they could actually change the system and that "Gore was
no different than Bush". However, the chief pusher of that perspective, Michael Moore, is himself begging
Gore to enter the race, so what do you think?

>DLC Centrist in populist clothing?

Ah, the supposed left trying to cause a fracture again (just as the far-right funded Nader's campaign)

8. I obviously agree about how awful the Bush Presidency is
And anybody would look good in comparison.

But Gore was part of the Clinton Presidency which was a DLC Centrist run presidency. He supported NAFTA, he supported Welfare Reform, and so on and so forth. Now I think he's probably learned his lesson, and would be a lot better. But once he's in the limelight who knows what will come out.

And you bring up another good point; any leftist organization that wants to trash Gore won't lack for funds to do it.

7. This was discussed on television last week.
While Gore may be more popular now than he was, it is due largely to his environmental work. The consensus was that he wasn't a great politician, and nothing on that front has likely changed today, but he is a GREAT environmentalist.

There was speculation that the experience promoting awareness of global warming might make Gore a better politician, but I guess he'd have to announce he was running in order to see if that is true or not.

13. He's stopped trying to be a good politician, and is focusing on the message.
It's working. He knows people might get tired of listening to him, and that's why he's waiting as long as possible. I think it's a good move.

17. How can one be sure he won't turn back?
I don't believe he would, but runnin for the Presidency is different than being a private citizen.

18. If there's one thing that Gore has proven beyond much of a doubt...
It is his ability to avoid making the same mistake twice.

16. The Dems may find wolves in sheeps' clothing...

Of course, that may still not be enough to convince a nominee (or the Dem "leadership") not to enable and legitimize failed far right policies and the attendant corruption.

Indeed, this little sheep expects that if things continue as they are, there may be a 3rd party movement (or two) that dwarfs 2000's Greens.
