On KO now....45,000 more troops???
Earlier today, "Daveparts" wrote in Editorials: You Say You Want A Revolution?

"So let’s get a couple million folks and march on D.C. Ok, but first we need permits and parade routes and understandings and regulations just like the first American Revolution right? “Yes sir, I’d like to apply for a permit to dress as Indians and throw tea into the harbor is this the correct office?” If you want to start a revolution you must do things they don’t like not things they will agree too! Recently 500,000 marched for Peace in Washington with the net affect of …Zip! Now hypothetically had 10% of those marchers blocked interstate highways in major cities across America on a Monday morning with banners that said stop the WAR Now! Would the public have gotten the picture? Would the media have covered the event a little more closely? If we then said we would continue to do it every week unannounced until the troops came home would that have a little more impact than marching on Washington?"

Let's do something about this war - now. Please.

1. You know what? That is an EXCELLENT idea. It definitely would

garner media attention by snarling traffic, though the anti-war activists would most assuredly get a bum rap for doing so.
I agree we need to do something to get everyone's immediate attention.:-(

19. The questions are ...
... how many are willing to accept a HIGH (10-40%) risk of going to jail? how many are willing to accept a MODERATE (4-10%) risk of being injured? how many are willing to accept a LOW (0.1-2%) risk of being killed?

IMHO, it'll take large (50,000+) groups willing to accept those risks engaging in non-violent civil disobedience.

Out of a group of 50,000, perhaps 5,000 might be detained, 2,000 injured (some seriously enough to require treatment), and 50 might be killed. History shows that only when non-violent civil disobedience provokes such retaliation from the police/military does the 'cause' gain traction.

and told them all then that I was willing to give my life for the cause of freedom and for all of their civil rights. They know I was and still am serious about that discussion.

I don't think any change will actually come about until we have a domestic body count. I am not willing to ask anyone else to do what I am not willing to do, but I would be happy to have others, that feel as I do, join me in this fight.

54. That's my attitude to a "T" ...
I refuse to be a spectator in my own governance. I refuse to ask more of others than I demand of myself. That would be cowardly. I wouldn't be willing to live with that.

You're exactly right, imho. We cannot regain our democracy "until we have a domestic body count." It's exactly that serious.

Seems Shrub sort of forgot to mention that the 20,000 or so troops in the "surge" were only the actual combat troops. He sort of forgot to add that there would be at least as many support troops (who also get injured and killed).

4. Thank you, Holly. Although I was too young for the Vietnam protests, I'm convinced (as are some
historians) that the so-called "outrageous" demonstrations in the 60's and 70's helped end that war in a way "calm" protests could not.

Bush to request hefty Iraq war funds

By Caren Bohan and Richard Cowan 1 hour, 1 minute ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -
President George W. Bush will request slightly more than $100 billion to cover war operations in
Iraq and Afghanistan for the rest of this year and an even larger amount for fiscal 2008 that begins on October 1, congressional sources said on Thursday.

The administration, which will submit the war cost proposals along with its annual budget on Monday, will provide details of its war spending plans to try to placate critics who have accused it of using a shadow budget to fund the war.

For the current fiscal year, the White House will ask Congress to approve an additional $93 billion for the Defense Department to conduct the two wars and about $7 billion for State Department activities, a Senate aide said.

Including other items, the request will total "a little over $100 billion," according to the Senate aide. That would come on top of $70 billion Congress already approved for the wars this year.

For 2008, the administration will ask for an amount "larger than the $100 billion in the fiscal 2007 request," the Senate aide said.

the federal budget does not include the Iraq War, and I saw on the News Hour yesterday,

there, he's quite breezy about the matter, next time we'll do a better job, don't worry

What this piece of shit will do is dump 21,000 boots on the ground without the support troops they need. This administration is incapable of managing anything including their own cover ups, insane plots, and ill conceived solutions. The only avenue left to the BFEE is pure despotism.
