BLACK PEOPLE LOVE US!
I was just reading through the debates about the Barack/Biden controversy, and it reminded me of this website which was sent to me years ago, complete with a comment, ironically, about white people praising their "black friends" for being "articulate" (and this was NOT added post-Biden, I remember the quotes quite well from years ago):
http://www.blackpeopleloveus.com/

How do we help people get beyond fear of anything aside from the status quo, ie, how do I tell otherwise well-meaning and big-hearted people I know that they really should deal with their "white guilt" issues? To stop saying "I have LOTS of black friends" or "I'm not racist, I just wish that everyone would assimilate into American culture, look at Bill Cosby!"

1. We Sure Do.
People like me just gave up and learned to take people on a case by case basis. We're less angry about the racism than about the goddamn presumption among some whites that they are not racist.

2. So all white people are automatically racists?
And black people never are?

So we shouldn't have black friends? Or if we do, we shouldn't mention it? Hello, wasn't that the problem to start with?

4. I have a lot of black friends
I just don't know who they are cause I am not looking up their color profile when we talk on DU :)

As far as the assimilating thing - here is my take on why people may use it:
Whites took this land from the indians (who were taking different parts of it from each other at the time too)
The white dudes started a new country
They saw what they created and they called it good
Then the black folks were freed (I won't focus on other groups here)
Then they wanted to make this country, or at least a small part of it, in their image - what they knew as a people
The white folks got upset 'hey, this country was made by whites and it was ok the way it was' - just assimilate

To which one replies:
This country was first made by Indians and it was OK the way it was, why didn't you adopt their ways and assimilate?

Seriously though - on the black friends thing. I think the reasoning it is used is thus:
Whites may be accused of not understanding black people and their issues, and be insensitive. To which they may say 'I have a lot of black friends' - which to them means that even though they are not experiencing the issues first hand they do see them as people they know and care about are suffering.

It is there way of saying 'yeah, I get it, and here is how I get without me having to be black'.

5. I'm afraid we might all be racist and not know it.
When I heard Biden's comments it took me a while to figure out what was wrong with it. I'm 23 y/o and I don't think my parents generation gets it that we (my generation) just don't think in black and white period. We have trouble being racially sensitive because we just don't see it like that.

6. Well, I can tell right away you are a racist :)
"I'm 23 y/o and I don't think my parents generation gets it that we (my generation) just don't think in black and white period"

Instead of black and white a true liberal would have included other colors in that statement

8. I saw that some time ago and couldn't figure out
If it was white people stereotyping other whites, whites satirizing Blacks, or blacks making a parody of white people. I'm not sure it matters.

Whatever it's meant to be, it's deeper than first appearance.
I hope it doesn't offend anyone, but I thought it was funny.
