White House on global warming: "the current set of policies are working"
I can't work out if that's an incredibly ignorant head-in-the-sand comment, a straight lie, or a Dr. Evil moment of honesty that they want the world screwed up:

US: SHARON HAYS, ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF THE WHITE HOUSE OFFICE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY POLICY

This report is a comprehensive and accurate reflection of the current state of climate change science.

(President George W. Bush) has put in place a comprehensive set of policies to address what he has called the 'serious challenge' of climate change....the current set of policies are working.

Reactions to the IPCC report

6. Is that before or after the wh tried to pay scientists off?
February 2, 2007
The Guardian
http://www.guardian.co.uk/frontpage/story/0,,2004399,00...

Scientists and economists have been offered $10,000 each by a lobby group funded by one of the world's largest oil companies to undermine a major climate change report due to be published today.

Letters sent by the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), an ExxonMobil-funded thinktank with close links to the Bush administration, offered the payments for articles that emphasise the shortcomings of a report from the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

7. What is it with these guys?
The constant lying. The total denial of reality. The insistence of using their own terminology such as "climate change" instead of the more accurate and widely used "global warming". It's as if they have some kind of phobia. They can't join with the rest of society on even the most trivial and mundane of things, "freedom fries" comes to mind. This has got to be studied. It's a sickness. It's some kind of brain rot.
:wtf:

8. So, not only are they completely incapable of uttering the truth...
they're also utterly incapable of grammatical correctness. George's verbal ineptitude must be rubbing off on the staff. Note to White House press office: pay attention to verb agreement. It's "the current set of policies IS working". Not "are working". Idiots.

15. Ah! Even my opponent admits it!
Sorry, it just reminds me of an old British comedy sketch, in a court with a lawyer who has taught himself law purely out of a book. After various mispronunciations, he finally says "And I will show that the defendant has no 'aleebee'". The defendant's lawyer finally cracks, and shouts "Alibi! ALIBI! 'He has no ALIBI!" - to which the reply is "See? Even my learned friend admits it!"

9. he's twisting data no doubt..
I heard one of the scientists from the study group say they aren't sure at this point if even reducing CO2 emissions would help-that its too late. No doubt he jumped on that and is going to quote that as saying scientists agree that reducing CO2 emissions isn't necessary. :banghead:

16. From the Summary for Policy Makers
"The carbon dioxide radiative forcing increased by 20% from 1995 to 2005, the largest change for any decade in at least the last 200 years."

That's working? The largest rate of increase yet?

13. "Working" For What and Who?
Exxon-Mobil? The Gas-Bags at the White House? 'Cause they're sure not working to fix the problem. Oh? They don't wanna fix the problem? Then this press release is right. Their policies are working just fine.
