Brownback again attacks Judicial Nominee who attended lesbian civil union in 2002
For months, we have been chronicling Sen. Sam Brownback’s one-man crusade against the nomination of Janet Neff because she attended a lesbian commitment ceremony in 2002. Because of this and this alone, Brownback has been stalling her nomination to serve on the US District Court for the Western District of Michigan while constantly changing his explanations and demands.

First he went to the Justice Department seeking a formal legal opinion while demanding that Neff answer various questions about her involvement in the ceremony and her views on marriage equality and civil unions. When that didn’t satisfy him, he demanded that she recuse herself from any case dealing with these issues, but then backed down when he realized that his preferred solution “was so unusual as to be possibly unprecedented.”

Brownback then demanded a second hearing for Neff so that he could grill her about these issues in person, because he failed to do so at her first hearing, which he had chaired. But he didn’t get a second hearing because even the Republican-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee noted that “there is no precedent to give a (nominee) who has passed out of committee and being considered on the floor a second hearing.”

Neff’s nomination has yet to be resubmitted by the President, though it is expected to be forthcoming. With Democrats in control of the Judiciary Committee, it is unlikely that Brownback is going to receive the second hearing he is calling for, since even the Republican-controlled committee wouldn’t grant him one.

Geez, whatever happened to "up or down vote"?

1. Brownback should be turned over to the care of a psychiatrist --
-- better yet a team of psychiatrists -- and locked up for an indefinite period.

Hatefulness wafts off him like a stench.

This is a page from the old Jesse Helms playbook, isn't it.

Shame on Sam Brownback.

3. Hi, NCevilDUer. Kansas voters are really keeping us on our toes
these days.

On one hand they elect a nutcase like Brownback to the Senate, and on another they re-elect a GREAT Democrat as Governor.

I hope the Sebelius faction prevails. I love Kansas. I want them to stop sending people like Bob Dole, Pat Roberts, and Sam Brownback to the Senate. But I want to encourage them to keep supporting Democrats like Sebelius.

Too early to really say, but Governor Sebelius would make a sensational vice presidential nominee on our 08 ticket.

4. I know how it is, with NC also being a bit schizoid --
Having both Jesse Helms and John Edwards as senators at the same time.

???

6. You said it. I'm still not sure how Edwards defeated Faircloth -
-- although I'm damned glad he did.

If Helms was a xenophobic ogre, Faircloth in his way was worse. He was more low-profile and still voted very, very conservatively.

It would have been a different Senate with Harvey Gantt instead of Jesse.

I realize Helms is long gone from the Senate, but I'm still mad at him for holding up Clinton's appointments the same way Brownback is doing these days.

loves her friend Old Crusoe! Thanks for jumping in and defending us, you are correct of course. We have been working hard to win and the Republicans have been destroying themselves so it is actually a win win situation.

Edit to add

11. I won't tell a soul. Yep. We're still pals.
I've seen you praise the strengths of many Democrats on these boards, and I appreciate it.

Being a Democrat is easier now after the November sweep of both chambers, but it's never easy in mostly red states.

I loved being a Democrat in those old New York days -- the Democratic primary for mayor in 76 was a tremendous campaign -- Ed Koch, Mario Cuomo, Bella Abzug, and Herman Badillo all finishing within I think a percentage point of each other, and then Koch and Cuomo in the runoff with Koch the victor.

It was a bone-crunching excitement and more than enough to keep this Abzug-Cuomo voter busy.

Out in the Bay Area I had the opportunity to be a constituent of Nancy Pelosi and still admire her a lot. In San Francisco, there seem mostly to be far-left socialist kind of Democrats, which is breath-taking and inspiring, or more moderate, establishmentarian ones. Republicans? Very few. And what few there are have been rounded up and institutionalized.

is a good ass-fucking by an East Bay Dyke with a huge strap-on.
